This week, we are discussing:
Where does your energy do?
Be mindful of where you spend your time.
Have you ever spend time with someone, or had a phone conversation with someone, and afterwards you feel drained and tired? Or the opposite. Sometimes you will spend time with or speak with someone and you feel so inspired after that you have lots more energy and get much more done? It could be that you spending too much time with 'psychic vampires'.
The term psychic vampires generally refers to people who will get their energy by taking yours. It feels like the life has been sucked out of you. After spending time with them you feel heavy, lazy and may want to just curl up and go to sleep. Most of the time these people are not even aware that they are doing this. And until now, you may not have been aware of them.
They are generally people who have not yet taken responsibility for their lives. They like to play the victim. They blame others for their life and are generally unhappy with the cards they have been dealt. The truth is, the cards are the cards. You can't change them. What you can change is how you play them. You can choose to throw it in and give up or you can choose to get rid of the cards that don't suit, get new ones and play a better hand.
The 'hand you've been dealt' metaphor is probably not the most appropriate though if you want to be happy. Unlike a game of cards, in life you have choices. You can choose to be a victim or an overcomer. You can choose when and how you spend your time and energy. Oh sure, you might have to work with some of these psychic vampires, or live with them, or even be married to one. The thing is, how you engage is up to you. Protect yourself. Fill your world up with so much fun and happiness that it doesn't matter.
What you might find is that you living your best life encourages them to start to do the same. Or the opposite might happen. When you start to have more fun, joy and happiness, they won't be able to be in your company as much. This can be a frightening thought if that negaitve person is a boss or lover. That's true. However, you have to live in your skin. You want to be happy, healthy and live a vibrant life.
I'm not saying ditch everyone in your life who is negative. We are all negative at times. I'm saying that if you are around someone who is constantly negative and even though they could change their thoughts, environment or action, they choose not to, then you need to protect yourself. Here's a couple of tips on how to do that.
- Spend only a short amount of time with them. If you have to be around these people keep it short.
- Fill your life with things that make you happy.
- Get out in the sunshine. Sunshine makes us happy. It gives us vitamin D. There are so many people in Australia now who are vitamin D deficient and this can lead to depression among other things.
- Know that their negativity is theirs. You don't need to take it on, or to think that you somehow caused it. You may at times inadvertently cause someone to feel pain and heartache. This is quite different to a persistent negativity.
There are many other things you can do. If you are into spiritual practices there are many tips for being in the company of negative people such as - send them pink light (love energy), imagine you are in a bubble and that their negativity can't get in or imagine that you are surrounded by mirrors that reflect back to them how they are being.
I'd love to hear your tips and stories. Share them on our facebook page @ www.fb.com/inner.rhythm
have a great week.
Til next time
