What do you do when what you want is not the best thing and not what you need?

Wants and needs. 

How often do you do something you want and find that it takes you further away from your goals. Let me give you and example. You are told by your doctor that you need to lose some weight as your health is at risk. And you walk out, are 'good' for a couple of days, then buys some chips, chocolate, soft drink, ice cream ... you fill in the blank.  We have all done it. Ultimately humans are pleasure seeking machines and will do what we want to do rather than what may be best for our health, physical or emotional. 

Let me give you another example, you are in a relationship that you can't be bothered working on to improve but you are too scared or lazy to take the steps to finish it. So what you need to do is either work on the relationship or leave and what you want to do is not upset the status quo. Humans like to take the path of least resistance. We don't like to do those things that cause us to stretch. But if you look back over your life, you will see that where you took control and did what you needed to do, to grow into the best version of yourself,  were the times where you learned the most about yourself and also where you got a real sense of accomplishment. 

I hope that you think about what you need to do to live your best life. And if what you need and what you want are the same then that is great news. And if they are not, be excited about what you are about to learn about yourself and the new habits you are about to create.
