Arnica montana is one of the best-known homeopathic remedies. It has been used for several trials to demonstrate the effect of homeopathic remedies on bruising and trauma. Indeed, some plastic surgeons swear by it for reducing bruising after cosmetic surgery. Many people are “converted” to the homeopathic cause after seeing spectacular results with this humble herb.

Arnica montana belongs to the Compositae family, in other words it is a relative of the common daisy. Several of this family of plants are used homeopathically and herbally – Calendula, Chamomilla, Echinacea, Millefolium (yarrow), Solidago (golden rod) and Taraxacum (dandelion).

There are many scientific trials done successfully with homeopathic Arnica and it is becoming widely used and accepted in all forms of health and medicine.
Samuel Hahnemann first potentised Arnica montana, recognising its powerful actions and its potential toxicity.

In homeopathy today it is used both herbally in the forms of creams and tinctures as well as in the potentised form. The whole plant is used for the homeopathic remedy.

Arnica montana is most often used and known for as a trauma remedy and is useful to have in your home first aid kit.  Following are some common issues that may respond well to arnica:
  • Bruising injuries from falls, blows, bumps etc.
  • May be useful for mild concussion (still seek medical attention)
  • Bleeding caused by injuries, black eyes or eye injuries
  • May relieve soreness and bruised feeling following childbirth
  • Soreness or bruising after tooth extraction or dental surgery
  • Soreness or bruising after surgery
  • Sprains and strains, including old injuries
  • Musculoskeletal pain from overuse or exercise
  • May be of great benefit in sporting injuries.
Arnica is brilliant for shock – whether from an injury or even from witnessing one. It also may useful for fears or anxiety relating to shock.

The doses and potencies of arnica needed depend very much on the reason for using it and usually repeat doses are required for a while.

With summer just round the corner, it may be a good idea to become familiar with this amazing, safe remedy and keep it handy.  It is suitable for all ages from birth to the elderly with no side effects.  It can also be given if a person is on medications. For many of my clients, Arnica is one of the remedies in Homeoinflam.

If you would like to know more, you can visit the client resources section on my website where you will find more information and how to use it.

Book an appointment before 20 December and receive a complementary Arnica Remedy.
