Why get a Medical Marijuana ID Card (MMIC)? All patients with a valid Medical Marijuana ID Card issued by their County Department of Public Health are exempt from paying the sales and use tax, per Proposition 64.
The average cost of a MMIC is currently $120.00. However, the maximum cost of a MMIC is now $100, or $50 for Medi-Cal patients. For patients who spend $100 or more per month, or Medi-Cal patients who spend $50 or more per month, the tax savings on the MMIC are financially advantageous. However, for patients who spend less than $100 per month, or Medi-Cal patients who spend less than $50 per month, there is no financial incentive to obtain the MMIC.
*Medical Cannabis ID card (MMIC). The Medical Marijuana Identification Card is issued by a California State/County Health Department. Cards issued by private companies will not be allowed, do not qualify for tax exemptions, nor should Physician Recommendations alone be sufficient.
