The semester is slowly coming to an end and soon we will spend hours and hours studying at the library, at home or wherever we find a fitting place. Moreover, Christmas is right around the corner, followed by New Year - so there is always something to do! So treat yourself with a cup of warm tea, make yourself as comfortable as possible and enjoy the upcoming advent season. If you feel like getting involved or doing something apart from studying or buying Christmas presents, you find plenty of possibilities in this newsletter. Call for... working group for a Policy Paper on Vaccination
swimsa is looking for motivated students to join its small working group (SWG) for a policy paper on vaccination. A policy paper is an official document which sets the basis of our actions and advocacy efforts as an association. It should represent the opinion of Swiss medical students on the issue.
What would the timeline look like? The plan is to present the policy paper at the next Delegate's Assembly in May 2022, meaning the biggest chunk of work will take place between January and May 2022.
Do I need much experience? No. We are looking for anyone who is motivated to write this paper in a small team. A step-by-step explanation will be provided at the start of the writing process.

Call for... participants in the COVID-19 Taskforce
Almost two years after its beginning, the pandemic is still present in our lives. If you feel like we need more action in order to get out of it, or if you think that us medical students should be more actively engaged and use our voices to fight misinformation, you can join the Covid-19 Taskforce. In the past, the taskforce has been active on projects such as keeping active the @swimsa.covid19 instagram page and creating a platform for students to find ways to help out during the health crisis. Do you feel at home on the internet and familiar with basic website programming skills? Do you want to contribute to the representation of 9000 medical students in Switzerland and help them to stay up-to-date and to find crucial information? Are you passionate about tackling new challenges?
Then we want you! swimsa is constantly improving our frequently used website and thus we are looking for a Website Coordinator to take care of uploading new content and to further develop this means of communication. Currently our website runs using Wordpress. In the light of our newly accepted official languages (EN, IT), you can make an invaluable contribution to bringing Medical Students from all over Switzerland the information they need and make finding its way through medical studies much easier.

Warum wollen einige Medizinstudent:innen im Job hoch hinaus, während andere sich lieber mehr Freizeit wünschen? Von welchen Faktoren werden unsere Karriere gerichteten Entscheidungen eigentlich beeinflusst? Diesen Fragen widmet sich die Masterarbeit einer Studentin der Universität Bern (Schweiz). Sie untersucht unter anderem, was Medizinstudierende antreibt oder davon abhält Karriere machen zu wollen.
Die Umfrage dauert nur 10 Minuten, besteht ausschliesslich aus Single-Choice Fragen und ist bis zum 22.12.21 hier verfügbar.
Alle Daten werden anonymisiert behandelt, so dass keine Rückschlüsse auf Einzelpersonen möglich sind. Gerne bekommst du bei Interesse auch einen kurzen Ergebnisbericht, mit allen Einzelheiten des Projektes.

Pourquoi certains étudiants en médecine veulent-ils atteindre des sommets dans leur travail, alors que d'autres préfèrent avoir plus de temps libre ? Quels sont les facteurs qui influencent nos décisions en matière de carrière ? C'est à ces questions que se consacre le travail de master d'une étudiante de l'Université de Berne (Suisse). Elle étudie entre autres ce qui motive ou décourage les étudiants en médecine à vouloir faire carrière.
L'enquête ne dure que 10 minutes, se compose exclusivement de questions à choix unique et est disponible jusqu'au 22.12.21 ici.
Toutes les données sont traitées de manière anonyme, de sorte qu'il n'est pas possible de tirer des conclusions sur des personnes individuelles. Si tu es intéressé(e), tu recevras volontiers un bref rapport sur les résultats, avec tous les détails du projet.

Arbeiten Sie derzeit im Rahmen Ihres Wahlstudienjahrs? Und falls ja: Haben Sie in Ihrem bisherigen Berufsalltag als Ärztin oder Arzt Erfahrungen mit sexueller Belästigung oder Sexismus gemacht? Welche Folgen hatte der Vorfall für Sie? Und für die Person, die Sie belästigte?
Wir freuen uns sehr, wenn Sie in unserer anonymen Umfrage zu sexueller Belästigung und Sexismus in der Schweizer Medizinbranche über Ihre Erfahrungen berichten. Angesprochen sind alle Personen, die schon Praxiserfahrung gesammelt haben (ab Wahlstudienjahr). Auch wenn Sie nichts dergleichen erlebt haben, sind wir dankbar für Ihre Teilnahme. Wir möchten uns ein möglichst umfassendes Bild verschaffen.

Travaillez-vous actuellement dans le contexte de votre Apprentissage en Milieu Clinique/AMC? Êtes-vous déjà médecin? Avez-vous fait l'expérience du harcèlement sexuel ou du sexisme dans votre travail précédent en tant que médecin? En avez-vous parlé à quelqu'un? Y a-t-il eu des conséquences pour la personne qui vous a abusé(e)?
Nous serions très heureux que vous partagiez vos expériences dans le cadre de notre enquête anonyme sur le harcèlement sexuel et le sexisme dans le secteur de la santé en Suisse. Nous nous adressons à toutes les personnes qui ont déjà acquis une expérience pratique (à partir de l’AMC). Même si vous n'avez rien vécu de tel, nous vous remercions de votre participation. Nous souhaitons nous faire une idée aussi complète que possible.
N'hésitez pas à parler de cette enquête à d'autres (futurs) médecins et à leur envoyer le lien. Il s'agit d'une enquête anonyme, il n'est pas possible de tirer des conclusions sur les participant(e)s.

Presentation of a new swimsa candidate member: NCWiki
Our Project NCWiki was founded in March 2021. We are a team of medical students who have set ourselves the goal of increasing equal opportunities with regard to the coveted and limited places in medical studies.
By creating preparation material we want to make the Numerus Clausus more financially as well as linguistically accessible. To this end, we have founded a platform on which we provide tips, tricks and exercise series on the different subcategories of the selection test freely available. Our entire content will soon be available in French and Italian as well. Furthermore, we are planning to organize free preparation courses and test simulations in the following year.
A big thank you to swimsa for supporting our mission! We are looking forward to working together to hopefully achieve our goal of becoming a real alternative to private for-profit companies!
The project CALWHA of M.E.T.I.S
Today, I am proud to present our project CALWHA of the association M.E.T.I.S. which supports more than 400 children living with HIV/AIDS in the Tanzanian cities of Ukerewe and Shirati. We organize bi-monthly Activity Days at two hospitals where the children receive antiretroviral treatment provided by the Tanzanian government, medical consultations, psychological support, and food.
Our interprofessional team, composed of eight medical and nursing students, works hard to raise money and publicize this great project through volunteer events, sponsorships and donations. We're hosting a bake sale, a charity yoga class, and a huge clothes sale, so stay tuned and bring friends!
On December 1st, World AIDS Day, we raise awareness on HIV/AIDS through social media and videos presented in various classes. We also launched our crowdfunding campaign at https://www.crowdify.net/fr/projet/calwha

Die FMH will sich im Hinblick auf den Klimawandel im Namen der Schweizer Ärzteschaft aktiv für den Schutz der öffentlichen Gesundheit einsetzen. Die Ärztekammer hat einem entsprechenden Strategiepapier «Planetary Health – Strategie zu den Handlungs- möglichkeiten der Ärzteschaft in der Schweiz zum Klimawandel» zugestimmt. Andere wichtige Entscheide betrafen die Standesordnung der FMH.

The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations is the umbrella organisation for all the national associations of more than 120 different countries worldwide!
