A word from Kate, President 21/22:
Dear medical students,
Another academic year is starting. For some of you, it might be a year of many firsts – first live lecture, first practical course, first clinical rotation. Others might just be looking forward to another year spent learning new skills and deepening friendships.
Before the stress of life is bound to restart in less than a week, take some minutes to reflect on what you want to achieve this year. Would you like to not only improve your academics but also contribute to representing your peers as well as future medical students? Working towards improving the quality of medical education and making sure the students’ voices are heard? Or have you always thought of starting a public health project or contributing to an existing one? Let this academic year be the year you find that thing that drives you and motivates you to do better day after day. If not now, when?
Have a great start of the year!
Yours,
Kate Gurevich

Call for... Small Working Group on Languages within swimsa
Liebe alle,
Chers tous,
Cari tutti,
Dear All,
The Small Working Group (SWG) on Languages within swimsa, which has been working on reassessing the use of languages within swimsa, needs your help!
Background: Currently, an evaluation of the languages used within swimsa is taking place. Up until now, the two official languages of swimsa were French and German with all official documents of swimsa existing in these two languages. Over the past years, English has been used more and more. Today, most communication with you, medical students, takes place in English. With a newly founded medical faculty in Lugano with some international students not speaking either official swimsa language, a discussion was started as to whether Italian should be included as official language of swimsa, or, possibly, a shift to English should be encouraged as well as to what extent Romansh should be included. The most important function of an official language is having all official documents of swimsa in these languages. Communication with medical students - using swimsagram, journal, website - is only partly in the official languages of swimsa, in most cases English is used.
Input: we would very much appreciate your input into the topic. Please fill out the google Form (German, French, Italian, Romansh) until the 24th of September 2021. Should there be any additional input or ideas you would like to share with us, feel free to contact us at gs@swimsa.ch.
Thank you again for your input.
