Dear swimsa family!

It has already been a few weeks since the amazing SMSC Lugano 2022 took place for the very first time in sunny Ticino. After listening to interesting lectures and getting to know new people from all over Switzerland, the swimsa world awaits new events: after the EuRegMe on which you can read in this newsletter’s edition, we will hold our delegates’ assembly in Basel on the 14.5. and are looking forward to further improve swimsa!

EuRegMe 2022 

From the 18th to the 22nd of April 2022, the IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Associations) European Regional Meeting took place in Povoa de Varzim, Portugal. swimsa was represented by 10 motivated medical students that took part in different sessions, discussions, votes, workshops, trainings and of course the socials. Additionally, we served the rest of Europe a lot of chocolate and during the National Food and Drinks Party, and even Raclette was on the menu. It was a very intense and amazing experience for all of us. If you are interested in joining a meeting like that contact the Vice-President for Global Affairs (

Testimonial of an incoming student

La Suisse, elle est top. A l'hôpital, tout le monde était très gentil et j'ai appris plein de choses. Parmi les gens que j'ai rencontrés pendant ce mois-là, chacun·e était accueillant·e, poli·e et souriant·e. J’ai passé des heures a l'hôpital au bloc opératoire sans sentir la douleur aux pieds ou la fatigue, et ça me rendait heureuse.

Ensuite, j'ai passé le week-end avec des amis dans de nouveaux endroits avec des vues magnifiques et une atmosphère incroyable. Ce  mois-ci était un rêve devenu réalité. Mais ne croyez pas que c’était facile au début. Les premiers jours étaient vraiment tendus; je me suis perdue à l'hôpital, j'étais inquiète pour la langue et les nouvelles personnes, mais tout cela s'est passé en quelques jours et je me suis sentie chez moi très rapidement. Merci encore pour tout , surtout pour les bons moments passés ensemble. Je suis sûre que chaque étudiant·e qui vient sera extrêmement impressionné·e et satisfait·e de son expérience. En tout cas, moi je le suis.

Die Arbeitszeiten müssen sinken!

Bei zwei von drei jungen Ärztinnen und Ärzten werden Arbeitsgesetz und -vertrag verletzt. Kaum eine(r) will aber noch länger bis zur totalen Erschöpfung arbeiten. Der vsao stellt nun ein Massnahmenpaket vor, um die Belastung zu senken. Ziel ist eine 42-Stunden-Woche plus Weiter- bzw. Fortbildung.

This is your local association for the med students at your university. They organise social events, parties, represent you to your faculty and fight for your medical education.

The Swiss Medical Students’ Association is the umbrella organisation for all Swiss med students. Her members are all the 7 Fachschaften/associations and projects like Achtung Liebe, marrow, METIS, Teddybärspital etc. Twice per year, she organises the SMSC (= Swiss Medical Students’ Conference) with students from all parts of Switzerland. The International Federation of Medical Students' Associations is the umbrella organisation for all the national associations of more than 120 different countries worldwide! They gather twice per year in the so-called General Assembly (=GA), where 1000 students come together to discuss on global health issues and exchange ideas. swimsa is always represented by a Swiss delegation.
