Hello Horse Friends! -- Both to those old and those I hope to meet real soon!
It has been some time since my last newsletter correspondence, one year to be specific. How time flies! A great deal has transpired for me this past year, many highs, some lows, which I want to share with you now.
For starters, one year ago Matt and I welcomed our second son, Lane. Now age 1, Lane accompanies his brother, Soren, age 3, on all his grand adventures, of which there are plenty! The boys are our absolute delights and absolute handfuls, all at the same time (as any parent knows!).
Following Lane's arrival, our family packed up and departed the home and life we had built in Omaha for 5 years to our next adventure in the charming town of Kearney, Nebraska. If you recall last year I had been alluding to and then was finally able to announce our acquisition of the most remarkable ranch. Affectionately dubbed "The Big Red Barn", we are now happily settled here and so very proud to call it home. As I promised last year, the barn is big, it is beautiful and it is the perfect venue for me to serve and support horse enthusiasts of all kind in their quest for horsemanship education and excellence! And it now boasts a new name, Mountain Rose Ranch
This month marks our grand opening at Mountain Rose Ranch and I feel as eager and enthusiastic as ever to welcome new faces and horse friends from the Kearney and surrounding community. As a means of getting to know you and allowing you to get to know myself, and my horsemanship philosophy, I am offering a "New to Town Meet and Greet" Series
which is complimentary
. Aka it's free. There will be food. And it will be fun! The series kicks off THIS WEEKEND, so do check out the flyer below for specific dates and details.
Mountain Rose Ranch will then be opening our doors for boarding starting in May. Mountain Rose Ranch will offer high-quality horse care centered around the horse's instinctive needs. We will also boast a great community of like-minded horse enthusiasts dedicated to the study of horsemanship and pursuit of partnership with horses. I invite you to learn more about our boarding community and services on the Boarding at Mountain Rose Ranch
page. Then please give us a call to set up a time to come out for a tour to see if we might be the next perfect home for you and your horse!
On the other fun news front, I have also welcomed another member to my family, this time of the fuzzy, four-legged variety. You may recall an exquisite bay QH mare that I was promoting for sale last year. Awesome Misty is her name and awesome she is! I enjoyed the loveliest of relationships with this mare during the time she was in training with me and every time I showed her to a prospective buyer I came away more and more smitten with her and more certain that I needed to have this amazing mare for myself. (Can you see where this is going?). This last fall I was able to finally make the commitment to Misty to bring her into the fold of my herd, so she has officially joined the ranks of Equine Instructor
at MRH. You may get to know (and admire!) Misty here
. I want to extend my thanks to her previous owner and valued MRH client and friend, Glenn, for allowing me the chance to become Misty's next human. The privilege is truly mine and I do so look forward to a continuing partnership with this special horse.
Though this year was abundant with many wonderful things, beginning with little Lane's arrival to moving into our new
ranch to the recent addition of Miss Misty, it did also bring a tremendous sorrow from which my heart is (and will always be) tender and grieving. Last October I lost my partner extraordinaire, Chinook -- a true horse of a lifetime and friend. For those of you who have known me for any time, you would have known Chinook. I knew and loved him since nanosecond one of life being privy to his birth, was able to be his first source of human connection through imprint training and had the incredible honor and privilege of being his human partner for twelve years. Chinook shared his abundant spirit with me and with many an MRH student. Chinook was found in his pasture from what we best deduce was a lightning strike following a night of terrific storms. Though the sorrow of his passing is tremendous, the sweetness and joy from a life well lived with him and a partnership deeply enjoyed are equally abundant. Chinook departed this earth running free in a pasture with his horse friends and knowing the satisfaction of being a cherished and adored pony. Shouldn't we all be so fortunate?! I ask you to join me in commemorating my friend through this video of our partnership
. Though it was a compilation of our play I made during his life, it does so justly and poignantly commemorate him in death. Chinook's ashes will be laid to rest this spring, on his birthday, so that he will be able to join myself and his herd in celebrating all the newness and unfoldings here at our new ranch.
My heart is so glad to be opening this new chapter and I feel grateful to be doing so in the sweet community of Kearney, NE and of course, at this exquisite slice of horse heaven! Please do have a look at the Upcoming Events section below for what's happening this month.
I feel like a frolicking filly with such excitement for what is to come and cannot wait to see some old faces and meet some new! Please join me!
The MRH Calendar is now up and is chock full of horsemanship happenings and events all year long at the new Mountain Rose Ranch!
