  • Member universities have nominated a new UniPID board. In the board's inaugural meeting, Elina Oinas from University of Helsinki was chosen as the chair, and Elias Pekkola from University of Tampere as the vice chair for the board term.   • The SIMHE course Technologies for Learning: Mobile and social technologies integration in pursuit of quality learning is currently open for registrations. The primary target group of the course are asylum seekers, refugees and people with immigrant backgrounds. Read the course description and register at the UniPID website.
  • UniPID and FSDR hand out the Master's Award in Development Studies to Antti Tarvainen in Helsinki on 16 February. Read more at our website.
  • Rolling call for UniPID DocNet membership open! If you are a doctoral student dealing with development topics or themes, consider applying for DocNet membership. More information and application form can be found here.
News on UniPID's FinCEAL Plus activities
  • FinCEAL+ Grants still available - apply now! Researchers can apply anytime for any of the following: Travel Grants, Event Grants, Project Preparatory Grants and Research Visit Grants. The planned activity must be related to cooperation with African, Asian or LAC partners, in any of the FinCEAL+ regional thematic areas. We encourage interested researchers to apply for grants as soon as possible, as the Call will most likely be closed by summer 2018. More information here.
  • FinCEAL+ LAC has gathered together a delegation of Finnish HEI's to participate in the FAUBAI 2018 Conference in Rio de Janeiro 14-18 April. Organized by the Brazilian Association for International Education, FAUBAI is considered the most important event on internalization of higher education in South America. This year the conference will focus on the relation between internationalization and research. The Finnish delegation will include representatives from Aalto University, Häme University of Applied Sciences, University of Turku and Åbo Akademi. More information about FAUBAI.

  • Seminar on Remittances: Economic and non-economic contributions sent by international migrants on 8 May 2018. The Migration Institute of Finland and the Swedish School of Social Science at the University of Helsinki are organizing a seminar on remittances on 8.5.2018 in Helsinki. The idea of the seminar is to look at remittances from a Nordic perspective. Read the Call for Papers here.
  • Law and Development Research Network (LDRN) PhD Course 2018: Resilience and equality: questions for the North and the South. Organized by the Institute for Human Rights at Åbo Akademi University, the course runs from 11 June to 15 June 2018. For more information on the course and to apply, click here. Application deadline is 30 March 2018.
  • PhD course at the University of Eastern Finland: Environmental collaboration and conflict resolution -The crossroads of forestry, ecosystem services and wildlife. The course runs from 20 to 24 August, and is organized at the University of Eastern Finland Joensuu campus. Read more and apply here.
