Developing Finnish Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation between Europe, Africa and the LAC region 

1. Targeted Travel Grants to European Events
FinCEAL has opened a Targeted Travel Funding Call to support the participation of a maximum of 10 experts from Finnish universities or research institutions interested in attending either of these 3 events in February-March 2015. A maximum of 3-4 experts will be awarded the grant for each event.
  1. The Smart, Green and Integrated Transport Information Day organized by the Transport Directorate of the European Commission's Research and Innovation Directorate-General is organizing an Information Day on Monday 2 February 2015 in Brussels. More information on how to apply for the travel grant.
  2. Information Day & Brokerage event on Horizon 2020 – Smart Cities and Communities 2015 Work Programme organized by the European Commission on Thursday February 12th in Brussels. More information on how to apply for the travel grant.
  3. Global Science Conference on Climate-smart Agriculture 2015, 16-18 March 2015, Montpellier, France. More information on how to apply for the travel grant.
2. FinCEAL Info Bank competition II
FinCEAL is constantly promoting the Infobank to International Networks and Finnish Missions abroad to highlight the Finnish expertise related to the regions and to make it more accessible to Finnish and International authorities. 3. Seminar on Cooperation Across Borders
FinCEAL and UniPID organized a two-day seminar to discuss and reconsider the different cross-cutting issues of international research, innovation and development cooperation addressing global challenges on November 12 – 13 2014 in Helsinki Congress Paasitorni. We were happy to see that the seminar gathered together over 160 participants from different sectors to share experiences, debate and network over the two days. 4. FinCEAL at the Global Forum, 2014
FinCEAL together with a delegation of researchers from universities and research centres attended The Global Forum: Shaping the Future 2014 event in Geneva, Switzerland on 17 – 18th November. The team set up a stand at the event for marketing Finnish expertise and building new networks. More than 50 people visited the FinCEAL stand over the 2 day event which focused on digital citizenship, digital future, smart cities among other topics. Read more about the event

5. FinCEAL Plus 2015 - 2016
We are pleased to announce that FinCEAL has been granted a funding extension by the Ministry of Education and Culture until the end of 2016. During the new period, FinCEAL will expand to include Asia. The Asia component of FinCEAL will be coordinated by the University of Eastern Finland. The call for application for the position of the Asia coordinator is currently open, deadline for applications is 2nd January. More Information.

Events, Publications and Calls relevant to FinCEAL Africa themes

EDCTP R&I Call on Improved diagnostic tools and technologies for detection of any PRDs
EDCTP (European and Developing Countries Clinical Trial Partnership) has opened a call for Research and Innovation on projects focusing on validation of the clinical performance and/or implementation of new or improved diagnostic tools and technologies for detection of any of the PRDs, including as co-infections. These tools and technologies should improve the performance of diagnosis, prediction, monitoring, intervention or assessment of therapeutic response, with a significant impact on clinical decision and health outcomes. Applications should focus on late stage development (e.g. evaluation and/or demonstration phase trials) or implementation studies in sub-Saharan Africa. Deadline 2nd March 2015Finland is a partner in the EDCTP and Finnish Institutions are highly encouraged to apply!! More information

EDCTP Coordination and Support Action (CSAs) Call on translating research findings into policy and practice
The purpose of this Call for Proposals is to accelerate translation of research findings from EDCTP-funded activities into policy and practice in order to maximise their public health impact in sub-Saharan Africa. Applications must be based on research findings from previously EDCTP-funded activities. Applications from multidisciplinary consortia are particularly encouraged. Proposals should focus on the translation and uptake of research findings from the former EDCTP-funded research activity into policy guidelines and defined changes in health systems or clinical practice. Deadline 16th March 2015.  More Information

eLearning Africa 2015 Call for Proposals
The tenth edition of eLearning Africa will take place on May 20 – 22, 2015, at the African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia under the theme ‘Enriching Tomorrow’. The call for proposals is open until 15.01.2015. More information

Innovations in Science and Technology in Developing Countries call for proposals
The International Science, Technology and Innovation Centre for the South-South Cooperation (ISTIC, and TWAS are collaborating on a project aimed at identifying, rewarding and disseminating best practices in the innovative use of science and technology in the development of new products, processes or services that have had impacts on economic development in the South. Calls open until 1st April, 2015. More information

Smart, Green and Integrated Transport Information Day, save the date! 2/02/2015, Brussels, Belgium

The aim of the day is to inform potential participants in the next round of calls under the Smart, Green and Integrated Transport Challenge of the new Horizon 2020 Framework Programme and to offer opportunities for networking. More information

Information Day & Brokerage event on Horizon 2020 – Smart Cities and Communities 2015 Work Programme 12/022015, Brussels, Belgium

A new call for proposals for Smart Cities and Communities solutions integrating energy, transport and ICT through lighthouse projects under Horizon 2020 (SCC-01-2015) will open on 10 December 2014 (deadline date for submitting proposals is 5 May 2015).
The information day will inform participants about the call objectives, requirements and specificities, and provide relevant insights and lessons learnt from the 2014 SCC-01 call. Afterwards, a brokerage event will provide a chance for people to discuss, exchange ideas, network and meet potential partners to create new or strengthen existing consortia. Please note that registration is already open and will remain open until 10 January 2015. More information.

Global science conference on climate-smart agriculture 16 - 18/03/2015,
Le Corum, Montpellier, France

The third global science conference on climate-smart agriculture will take place on 16-18 March 2015 in Montpellier France. Its ambition is to build tomorrow's research agenda and to bridge the gap between science policy on climate change and agriculture. A call for abstracts is open until 30 November 2014. Early bird registration until 31st January 2015. More information.
