Developing Finnish Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation between Europe, Africa and the LAC region 
 

1.  FinCEAL Infobank competition II
A few more days left to register your project at www.unipid.fi/infobank and get an opportunity to win a travel grant of 1500€! Deadline for registering projects is 31 January 2015FinCEAL Infobank is a multidisciplinary database on research related to Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean carried out by the Finnish science community. More information 
 
2. FinCEAL Event Grant Call for organizing LAC related events 
FinCEAL has opened an Event Grant Call to support the organization of workshops, seminars, conferences or other types of events related to science, technology and/or innovation cooperation with the LAC region or both Europe and the LAC region. The grant is open to research groups/teams based in Finnish research institutions, which are actively engaged in cooperation or seeking to build new cooperation with research partners from the LAC region. The event can be organized in Finland, another European country or in the LAC region. Including European partners in the event is not mandatory, but preferred. The application deadline is 13 February 2015. More information

3. Call for Papers for EU-SPRI Forum 2015 Annual Conference
The call for papers for EU-SPRI 2015 conference “Innovation policies for economic and social transitions: Developing strategies for knowledge, practice and institutions” has been launched. The call is for Extended Abstracts of 1000-1500 words and the submission deadline is 8 March 2015. FinCEAL is participating in the organization of special track 4, “Innovation collaboration to tackle societal challenges and promote development”. The conference will be held in Helsinki, Finland 10-12 June 2015. More information

4. Development Research Day 2015 in Helsinki
The Development Research Day 2015 will be held at the University of Helsinki 12-13 February 2013 under the theme "Rethinking Responsibility in Development: Contested Relations between Citizens, States and Corporations". The event's keynote speakers include Dr Dinah Raja, author of “In Good Company: An Anatomy of Corporate Social Responsibility” and Prof Bernadeta Killian, author of “The Women’s Land Rights Movement, Customary Law and Religion in Tanzania”. 5. New FinCEAL Staff Members
The FinCEAL team has new staff members! FinCEAL’s Africa coordinator Eva Kagiri is going for a 1-year leave starting 30 January and is substituted at the University of Jyväskylä by Jenni Ratilainen. She can already be reached at jenni.m.ratilainen(a)jyu.fi or tel. 040 805 37 52. The team's new Asia coordinator has also been recruited and will be introduced very soon!

Welcome Trust International Engagement Awards
The Welcome Trust International Engagement Awards is now inviting expressions of interest for grants for innovative public or community engagement projects that explore biomedical research or health in Africa and Asia. The grants are max £30,000 for up to a period of three years. The next deadline for expressions of interest is 27 February 2015. More information

EU-LAC Foundation Open Call for Research Projects
Under the EU-LAC Foundation’s six-monthly Open Call, researchers and consortia may apply for grants (max 25,210 euro) to fund research projects on topics relevant to the relationship between the European Union and Latin America and the Caribbean. The Foundation will publish the studies’ results. The next deadline for proposal submissions is 31 March 2015. More information

Calls

Third ERA-MIN Joint Call
The Third ERA-MIN Joint Call has been launched with a focus on non-energy primary and secondary raw materials, recycling and substitution. 12 countries are participating in the call, including Finland, Argentina and South Africa. The application deadline is 19 May 2015. More information

UAS Journal Call for Papers on CSR
The Journal of Finnish Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS Journal) will publish a special issue on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and is inviting papers, reviews and comments to the special issue. The papers can address, e.g. CSR for universities; new competence, employment, local and regional development; sustainability in operation, research and education; or sustainable responsible networks and partners. The maximum length for an article is 10 000 characters, for a review 4 000 characters, and for a comment 3 000 characters. The deadline for submitting a finished article is on week 7/2015. The World Social Science Forum 2015 will take place in Durban, South Africa 13-16 September 2015 with a thematic focus on "Transforming global relations for a just world". The registration and call for abstracts are now open. Abstracts will be accepted until 1 March 2015. More information
 
Global Forum on Research and Innovation for Health 2015
The Global Forum on Research and Innovation for Health 2015 will be held in Manila, Philippines 24-27 August 2015. The theme of the event will be “People at the Center of Health Research and Innovation”. The abstract submission is scheduled to open 30 January. More information
