FC+ UPDATES AND FUNDING

1. FinCEAL Plus INFOBANK competition 2017 is open!

2. Call for experts: New Solutions for Education and Health - seminar in Beijing, China on 9th October
UniPID / FinCEAL Plus and China - Finland Strategic ICT Alliance are organizing a high-level, bi-regional research seminar focusing on Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation in Health and Education in Beijing, China 9th October 2017. The seminar is supported by Team Finland, Ministry of Education and Culture, Embassy of Finland in China, as well as other relevant entities from China and Finland.
We are now inviting experts from Finnish universities and research institutions to express their interest in joining the Finnish expert delegation to the event. The deadline is 31 August. More information.




3. FinCEAL+ Targeted Travel Grant Calls:  
  • ICT Proposer’s Day 2017, Budapest, Hungary
    FinCEAL Plus has opened a Targeted Travel Grant Call to support the participation of experts from Finnish universities or research institutions interested in attending the ICT Proposer’s Day 2017 in Budapest, Hungary, on November 9-10. Deadline for applications is 15th September.   • Technologies and Business Models for the Energy Challenges of the 21st Century, Santiago de Chile, 23-24 October
    FinCEAL Plus has opened a Targeted Travel Grant Call to support the participation of 1-2 experts from Finnish universities or research institutions interested in attending the event organized by the ELAN - European Latin American Technology Based Business Network. Deadline for applications is 8th September. More information.
4. FinCEAL Plus Africa invites energy researchers to submit papers for the 2nd Africa-EU Renewable Energy Research and Innovation Symposium (RERIS) 2018
The event takes place on 23-26 January 2018 and will be held at the National University of Lesotho on occasion of NULISTICE 2018. FC+ Africa will open a call for targeted travel grants to support the participation of successful submissions. The submission deadline is 10 September 2017. All submissions must be made online on the symposium website.

5. FinCEAL Plus Rolling Call for Grants under the new Partnership Support Instrument
Through this Call, researchers can apply anytime for any of the following: Travel Grants, Event Grants, Project Preparatory Grants and also the new Research Visit Grants. The planned activity must be related to cooperation with African, Asian or LAC partners, in any of the FinCEAL+ regional thematic areas. More information.
 

6. News from FinCEAL Plus Grantees


A team from the Department of Biology, University of Turku, organized a research collaboration workshop and a course on spatial statistics for environmental data analysis at the University of Cusco, Peru, in June 2017, with the support of  FinCEAL Plus Event and Travel Grants. The workshop  served to connect people associated with the UTU team's ongoing research projects in Peru, introduced new research methods for local teachers and students and helped build links with local institutions, both in academic and NGO sectors. On the same trip, the team also carried out fieldwork in the Andean-Amazonian cloud forests at a biological station of the Amazon Conservation Association. 7. The NCPs present: H2020 info day, Tekes, Ruoholahti, Helsinki, 2 October


The Horizon 2020 Infoday will take place 2 October 2017 in Helsinki. It is dedicated to the upcoming Horizon 2020 calls. During the event, the NCPs will present the Work Programme and decode the call texts for you, going through every detail and even the small print. The aim is to provide a clear picture of what is coming up, what the call texts mean and what the applicants should focus on. Please find the programme from the registration page and sign in now.

Submit your COST Action proposal
COST Actions are a networking instrument for researchers, engineers and scholars to cooperate and coordinate nationally funded research activities. COST does not fund research itself. COST invites participants to submit proposals for COST Actions contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, cultural or societal knowledge advancement and development of Europe. Multi- and interdisciplinary proposals are encouraged. Deadline is 7 September 2017, 12:00 noon (CET). More information

Pre-call announcement: EqUIP call for EU-India collaborative research on sustainability, equity, wellbeing and cultural connections

The EU-India Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities (EqUIP) call aims to bring together a number of social science and humanities funders in India and Europe to support excellent and innovative research on sustainability, equity, well-being and cultural connections. The emphasis of the research will be on Indian and European dimensions, in both contemporary and historical contexts. Call opens in early September. More information

2017 China-Europe Water Platform (CEWP), Annual High-Level Dialogue Conference and Business Event, 21-22 September, Turku

INCOBRA BROKERAGE EVENT: Living Innovation in an Evolving World, 31 October to 1 November, Belo Horizonte, Brazil
The Brazilian edition of the INCOBRA brokerage event will be organized in the framework of the 16th ANPEI Innovation Conference. The Conference attracts every year more than 1400 Brazilian participants from 15 different cities, offering a privileged forum for connecting representatives of companies, government agencies and STI organizations. EDCTP2 Work Plan 2017
The work plan describes activities under the second EDCTP programme in 2017. It provides information on EDCTP-managed calls for proposals, including the challenge, scope and expected impact, as well as supporting information about eligibility requirements and other specific conditions for applying. It also contains an overview of the Participating States' Initiated Activities (PSIAs), i.e. activities funded and implemented directly by one or more EDCTP Participating States. More information.

European Commission launches Knowledge Centre to provide scientific evidence on bioeconomy
The European Commission has launched the new Bioeconomy Knowledge Centre to better support EU and national policy makers and stakeholders with science-based evidence in this field. The platform will not primarily generate knowledge, but will collect, structure and make accessible knowledge from a wide range of scientific disciplines and sources. Finland´s preliminary views on the next EU Framework Programme
This position paper presents preliminary views on some guiding principles and general aspects of the EU's 9th Framework Programme for research and innovation, based on a national consultation process among representatives from various interest groups and other stakeholders in addition to authorities.
