Developing Finnish Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation between Europe, Africa and the LAC region 
 

UniPID – Finnish University Partnership for International Development in cooperation with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Energy Center/University of Chile and ÁgoraLab/Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil are organizing a bi-regional seminar on the topic of Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation in Smart Cities, especially focusing on smart transport and energy solutions for urban areas. Finnish experts are now invited to join the delegation to the event!

FinCEAL Cross-cutting Issues Seminar's call for working groups and papers is open until June 19th.
Cooperation Across Borders - Comprehensive Responses to Transecting Global Challenges? The two-day seminar (November 12-13th) aims to consider how international and intersectoral partnerships, interdisciplinary approaches and cross-cutting themes have been and should be taken into account and implemented in the Finnish response to global challenges. FinCEAL Project Preparatory Funding Call for researchers is open until August 15th. 
The purpose of the preparatory funding is to offer support to applicants based in Finnish institutions who are in the mid or late stage in the process of preparing an application for research funding from Horizon 2020, ERA-NET or the EuropeAid funding schemes.

FinCEAL Virtual Info Session will be held on Tuesday, June  17th, at 2PM.


A Virtual FinCEAL Info Session will be held on Tuesday June 17th, 14.00 – 15.00 via Adobe Connect Pro.

This Info Session is focused on sharing practical information related to FinCEAL Project Preparatory Funding. Participants need a computer, internet connection and a headset with microphone, no program installations are required for joining the virtual meeting. Time will be reserved for answering any questions regarding FinCEAL, and especially Project Preparatory Funding call.

FinCEAL Travel Grants  have been awarded!


The second Open Call for FinCEAL Travel Grants was published in April 2014 and closed on May 18th. In total we received 46 applications, 33 for Africa, 11 for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), one joint application for both regions and one without a regional focus. We would like to thank everyone who applied! See the results of the Call here.

 

FinCEAL at International Educators’ Days 
 

As a part of UniPID, FinCEAL took part in International Educators’ Days in Tampere, May 12th to 14th. FinCEAL hosted a round table discussion focusing on mapping the roles of administrative staff vs. researchers in international research projects. Read more

Networking meeting for stakeholders interested in EU-LAC Health cooperation on Tuesday 10th June 2014, 15.00 – 16.30 at the Academy of Finland premises, Helsinki
FinCEAL, Biocenter Finland and the Academy of Finland are organizing a networking meeting for actors in the field of health research who are involved or interested in cooperating with Latin American and Caribbean counterparts. Development week 2014 from 30th June to 3rd July in Paris

  • VI International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean
    The International Economic Forum on Latin America and the Caribbean is a yearly high-level event that brings together policy-makers, CEOs, and experts from Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe to discuss the LAC-region’s economic performance and share solutions to its development challenges. This year the Forum will take place on 30th June in OECD Conference Centre in Paris.

  • DEV – EU-LAC Foundation joint meeting: “New EU development cooperation strategies in Latin America & the Caribbean” will take place on 30th June in Paris.

African Livestock Conference and Exhibition (ALiCE2014) will take place from June 18th to 20th 2014 at Speke Resort and Conference Center in Kampala, Uganda.
Participants from Livestock industry, commercial livestock keepers, ranchers, distributors are expected to tour the exhibition for the three days.

ESASTAP Plus Short-term Exchange Programme for individuals involved in technology transfer (E+ STEP)
E+STEP aims to provide opportunities for the exchange of information and best practices in technology transfer between South Africa and Europe; to enhance and promote innovation collaboration between South Africa and Europe; and to identify and reduce barriers to innovation collaboration between South Africa and Europe. The programme will provide an opportunity for individuals working in the field of technology transfer from South Africa and individuals from Europe to visit a host institution in Europe and South Africa respectively. Deadline for submissions is 16th June 2014.

Climate Change and Development Short Course will be organized in Norwich, UK, between 3–12 September 2014.
The purpose of this short course is to equip non-specialists with a broad understanding of what climate change may mean for low-income populations.
