1. FinCEAL Infobank Competition 2016 - Showcase your project on the Map!
Did you miss out on the opportunity to participate in the FinCEAL 2015 Infobank Competition? We have opened a new call - input your project between June 20th - August 31st, 2016 and get an opportunity to win a travel grant of 1500€. More information

2. FinCEAL+ Targeted Travel Grants to attend Info Days on H2020 Societal Challenge 5, Brussels, 14th September
Deadline for the travel grant applications is August 5th, 2016. More information

3. FinCEAL+ Call for Open Travel Grants is still open - Apply now!
The call is open to researchers and PhD students based in Finnish research institutions, who are working within the FinCEAL+ themes. The Call is foreseen to close during summer 2016, apply as soon as possible! Please note also that the processing of applications may take longer during the holiday season. 4. Call for Papers: Education Africa Research Seminar co-organized by FinCEAL+ Africa
Seminar addressing the timely issue of status and prospects of education in contemporary Africa. Deadline for the Call for Papers is 30th June. More information

5. Call for Papers: IX Iberoamerican Congress on Pulp and Paper Research: "Building bridges in research and innovation for the sustainable bioeconomy", 5-9 September, Espoo
Abstract submission deadline is 14th July. More information

6. Call for Papers: BELAWARE Conference 2016 (Bridging Africa, Latin America and Europe on Water and Renewable Energies) co-organized by FinCEAL+
The conference will be held on 11-13th December, 2016 in Arusha, Tanzania. Researchers in Finnish institutions focusing on Africa and LAC are encouraged to submit papers to this conference. Deadline for abstract submission is 15th August. FinCEAL+ will open Targeted Travel grants later in the year to support the participation of some successful submissions. More information

7. Call for Papers: I&S International Workshop on Insights and Strategies Towards a Bio-Based Economy, 22-25 November, Montevideo, Uruguay

FinCEAL+ Africa co-organized a session on Young Entrepreneurs and Scientists at the 2nd Stakeholder Forum of the Africa-EU Energy Partnership, Milan, Italy
Together with the Africa-EU Renewable Energy Programme (RECP) which is co-financed by Finland, FinCEAL+ Africa organized a session for young scientists and entrepreneurs - the challenge - A Science Slam! Read the Story

FinCEAL+ LAC co-organized a Nordic Stakeholder meeting about strengthening Nordic-LAC cooperation in Stockholm
The event was featured on the EU-LAC Foundation website. A full report about the outcomes of the meeting will be published on our website shortly and made available in the next Newsletter.

12. News from FinCEAL+ Grantees


A winner in the 2015 FinCEAL 2015 Infobank Competition, Dr. Eric Bruun used his grant to visit South Africa. He attended a research proposal meeting and workshop on non-motorized transport safety. Here are some highlights from his trip

FinCEAL Plus supported the seminar to promote oral health research collaboration between University of Oulu, Finland and Kathmandu, Nepal
University of Oulu, Center of Oral Health Research has been building up a national oral health research project in Nepal with University of Kathmandu and is also looking for ways to promote post graduate and doctoral training. Read more

African Union Research Grants II
The African Union Commission has launched Phase II of the African Union Research Grants programme with an open 'Call for Proposals for Research and Innovation in Africa' supported by the European Union. The call is open for partnership with European partners. More information

Asia-related

Information on First Call Launch by China for the EU-China Research and Innovation Co-Funding Mechanism
The EU-China Co-Funding Mechanism supports mainland China-based research and innovation organisations participating in Horizon 2020 projects.  More information

Indo-European Science and Technology Joint Inno Indigo ERA-NET Call for proposals on Biobased Energy is now open for submission!
Within the framework of the INDIGO Partnership Programme an EU-India S&T joint call for proposals on Biobased Energy was opened on 15 April 2016. The topics covered by the call are Biofuels and From Waste to Energy. For more information see the Academy of Finland Website and Inno Indigo S&T call 2016 website. The deadline for submission of proposals is 12 July 2016.

Apply now for the Young Scientist Competition 2016!
The Young Scientist Competition is an initiative of the FP7 projects Inno Indigo and Indigo Policy. Since 2014, it has given young researchers from India and Europe a podium to promote their research projects and ideas for cooperation. More information

Trans-Atlantic Platform for the Social Sciences and Humanities – Digging into Data Challenge
The Trans-Atlantic Platform (T-AP) has launched the 2016 T-AP Digging into Data Challenge Call to support research projects that use "big data” to address questions in the social sciences and humanities. Each application must include partners from at least three participating countries (at least one partner from an EU country and at least one partner from North or Latin America). The deadline for the Call is 29th June, 2016. More information

Mexican Government's Call for Scholarships: Special Programmes for Foreigners 2016
The Call includes several different programmes that are open for Finnish professors, researchers, artists and students. More information

Pontifical Catholic University of Chile: Two-stage call on Internationalization of Research in Astrophysics, Global Change and Cognitive Sciences
The call is aimed at stimulating the internationalization of research in three topics through the creation or consolidation of scientific cooperation between researchers from the Catholic University (UC Team) of Chile with foreign peers. More information

Magnet financing scheme for foreign scientists to work in a Peruvian research institution
MAGNET is a financing scheme that the National Council for Science, Technology and Technological Innovation (CONCYTEC) of Peru has created to encourage the incorporation of highly specialized scientists, foreign or Peruvian, to consolidate research lines in science, technology and technological innovation in Peruvian entities.
