Developing Finnish Science, Technology and Innovation Cooperation between Europe, Africa, Asia and the LAC region


1. FinCEAL+ Project Preparatory Funding Call will remain open until 15th April - Now is the time to apply!
FinCEAL Plus offers Project Preparatory Funding to support applicants based in Finnish institutions who are in the process of preparing an application for collaborative research funding from European research funding schemes with partners from Africa, Asia or the LAC region. Deadline for applications is 15th April. More information on how to apply and examples of relevant calls

2. FinCEAL+ Africa Targeted Travel Grants
FinCEAL+ Africa is inviting researchers to apply for travel grants to attend 2 events under the themes of Food Security and Information Society. More information on the events and how to apply.

3. FinCEAL+ Call for Open Travel Grants is open as a Rolling call - Apply anytime!
The call is open to researchers and PhD students based in Finnish research institutions, who are working within the FinCEAL Plus themes, to facilitate their participation in: a) Consortia or networking meetings with European and African/Asian/LAC partners; b) Regionally significant Science, Technology, and Innovation events; c) Networking meetings, events or conferences within the project thematic areas. 4. Other Funding Opportunities

BEAM-programme research funding call
Tekes and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs' BEAM - programme has launched a call for research proposals for innovations meeting the needs of developing countries and providing Finnish companies with new business opportunities in the growing markets of such countries. The innovations in question can involve technology, service, business or social innovations, for example. Call closes 31.3.2016. More information

NordForsk Support Grants for planning H2020 Secure Societies calls
The aim of the Nordic Societal Security Programme is to develop new knowledge about and solutions for the many aspects of societal security affecting the Nordic countries. With this call, NordForsk aims to support the planning of proposals for a selected Horizon 2020 Secure Societies calls. More information on the call

Information on First Call Launch by China for the EU-China Research and Innovation Co-Funding Mechanism
The EU-China Co-Funding Mechanism supports mainland China-based research and innovation organisations participating in Horizon 2020 projects. This first call covers a variety of thematic areas including food, agriculture, biotechnology, ICT, space, aviation, energy, health, transportation, water resources, energy conservation, advanced manufacturing, new materials, sustainable urbanization, and exchange of young scientists. Two deadlines are foreseen for 2016: 31 March and 31 July 2016. More information

ERA-NET LAC Call is Open - DL 10th March
The aim of the ERANet-LAC Joint Calls is to start new, sustainable and multilateral research cooperation between researchers from Europe, Latin-America and the Caribbean countries. The Academy of Finland will fund the following topics: Topic 1: Ecosystem-based adaptation and resilience; Topic 3: Biorefinery – Fractionation and valorization of residual biomass to intermediate and/or final high added value bioproducts; Topic 5: Wind Energy – Advancement of small/medium-scale wind turbines in EULAC countries; Topic 6: Solar thermal energy – Energy storage technologies. Deadline for applications: 10 March 2016. More information on the Academy of Finland website and the Call on the ERA-Net LAC website.

5. Events relevant to the FC+ themes and regions

The 2016 Science-Business Horizon 2020 Conference, 16 February in Brussels
This year, 2016, marks a turning point for Horizon 2020, the world’s second largest civilian research programme. After a strong start in 2014 with a funding rise and a surge in applications, the €77 billion programme is beset with questions about its future: Will its overall, annual budget be cut in this year’s EU funding review? How can it deal with the continuing tide of grant applications? What can applicants do to increase the odds of success? At the conference, Horizon 2020 experts will deliver tips and advice to perform better. More information

Info Day for the 2016 Call for Knowledge and Innovation Communities Proposals 18 February in Brussels
The European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) is organising an Information Day for the 2016 Call for Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs) Proposals. The main objectives of the conference is to provide participants with information on the Call and guidance to potential applicants in submitting high quality and successful proposals. Please note there is a current H2020 open call on KICs. More information

InnoFrugal Conference, 25-26 April 2016 in Vantaa
The conference is organized by the Nordic Frugal Innovation Society, and addresses issues such as Circular Economy, Shared Economy, Open Innovation, Inclusive/Social Innovation, DIY/Maker Movement and Co-creation. Early-bird registration until 29th February. More information and registration

ASEAN-EU STI Days, 3rd Edition, 10-12 May in Hanoi, Vietnam
The ASEAN-EU Science, Technology and Innovation Days are a forum style event, initiated by the European Comission's 7th Framework Programme funded by the SEA-EU-NET II project. This year's edition of the event will foucs on presenting academic/industry collaborations in and between ASEAN and the EU in the context of common key societal challenges for both regions. More information The Young researchers from the 10 ASEAN countries are invited to submit papers or posters on the scientific topics of the upcoming STI Days 2016. Paper and poster abstract submission deadline: 29 February 2016. More information

6. European and Latin American Technology-based Business Network (ELAN) Public Consultation

Participate in ELAN's public consultation to impact  developing technology based business opportunities between Europe and Latin America and the Caribbean. The public consultation collects information for the assessment of the needs of European Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Research and Technology Organisations (RTOs) to enter into business collaboration based on technology with partners in Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC)  in all the following sectors: Renewable Energies, Biotechnology and the Bioeconomy, Environmental Technologies, Health, Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), Nanotechnologies, New materials
