Dear supporter,

Welcome to your summer newsletter!

We have some exciting news, HSAM is now a registered charity!  We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have  supported us over the years; without you all, we'd never have got this far!

Our volunteers were back in Essaouira in May to continue our sterilisation and treatment programme.   They had another great trip and helped over 300 animals!

Every trip throws up unique situations; we never quite know what to expect... When we arrived, we discovered that some of the dogs that we had previously treated had been seen in another town 9 miles away.  A massive relief was finding Bobby there, who we thought had died.

'... encouraging the safeguarding of communities and furthering our programme'

There have been changes in government policy in Essaouira that have restricted our work, therefore affecting both animals and people.   We have begun to build links with new government officials and have produced new documents encouraging the safeguarding of communities and furthering our programme.   We will keep you updated on any progress!

Please take a look at our gallery to see up-to-date pics!

Many thanks for your continued interest in our work.

Dogs given Rabies vaccination and parasite control

One of the government's stipulations was that every dog has to have a 'Godfather'; someone who is responsible for ensuring that Rabies vaccinations are given annually.  We felt we had a big task on our hands!

The job was not as difficult as we had first envisaged; local people were more than happy to step forward to help protect their community dogs!

Each vaccination card was completed and a map showing where to take the dog for future vaccinations provided.

We will keep in contact with the dogs' carers to make sure that the Rabies vaccinations are continued every year.  If necessary, we will provide transport for taking the dog to the surgery to receive it's yearly injection.
