In most shops you'll find a clearance section that contains damaged goods. The give away is normally on the labels. Things like slightly irregular, has slight mark or does not work properly. They rarely tell you where the blemish or fault is, so bargain hunters like me have to take the time to look over the item closely to try and find the blemish - normally after close scrutiny you can find it.
The reality of life is that we as human beings are very similar. We all know that none of us are perfect (and If you think you are you've just found one of your imperfections!) and it's not until we get to know each other more closely that we discover those imperfections.
In yesterday's Mothers Day message about two imperfect mothers I mentioned a brilliant little book by John Ortberg that I read a few years back entitled Everybody's normal till you get to know then. I found it really helpful as John outlines three key things that I think everyone needs to know;
1. There's no such thing as normal.
2. How to get close to someone without getting hurt.
3. The Secret's of strong relationships.
The Bible is jam packed with loads of irregular people, some of them very damaged goods that have suffered terribly had the hands of people and circumstances. What I find personally inspiring is that God has chosen to take these broken people and used them to fix a broken world.
Let these words from Paul the Apostle to the church in Corinth 2,000yrs ago inspire you today: "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things – and the things that are not – to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God" 1 Corinthians 1 verses 27-30
