Church News

15th June 2015

Good Morning! I hope your week is off to a good start.

How have you got on with the challenge that Mark Watkins gave us at yesterday's morning service? The challenge was to share Jesus with one person every day for a week.

I don't know how you felt, but quite a few people I know find it really tough to talk to other people about Jesus and feel more than a little uncomfortable about the thought. It isn't about being ashamed of Jesus or of the faith that we have in Him, it is more about the responsibility that we that we all have in making sure that we show the world the right image of Jesus. The last thing we want is to come across as preachy, and we certainly don't want to be accused of being hypocritical. This can put us into a difficult position. We want to tell anyone and everyone about Jesus and about what he has done for us, and yet, we become almost scared to for fear of being judged, for fear of being rejected, and for fear of losing friends and family.

Romans 1:16 tells us  "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, 'BUT THE RIGHTEOUS man SHALL LIVE BY FAITH.'"

Here, Paul is clearly brave and determined about what he believes in. He has full confidence and belief in His God and in Jesus, His saviour. He knows the truth and is determined that everyone else will know it, too. He turns his focus on to Jesus, and by extension, God.

This is something, as believers, that we can sometimes forget, as we turn our focus on to our churches. We can end up focusing on songs, worship, sermons, and people, when really, what we need to do is place Jesus at the center of everything. We need to focus on one person, and on what He did for us.

Our verse for the year is:
"fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God" Hebrews 12:2

This is exactly the point that Mark was trying to make in his message yesterday. We need to fix our eyes of Jesus and on doing what is good and pleasing to Him. We need to focus on one man, who laid down His life for all and have total Clarity, Conviction and Confidence about who he is and sharing him with others.

Mark implored us to be bold when speaking about Jesus to the people we know, after all, they have nothing to lose by believing, but everything to gain. Hreminded us of something that Pastor Eifion used to say. "If I believe in God and follow Him, I have lost nothing because my life is fulfilled, and if you are right and I die and that's it, I have still lost nothing, but if I'm right, you will have to stand before God and explain why you didn't believe"

My prayer this week is that we will be bold in our faith and belief in Jesus, and that we can be encouraged to share Him with those that we do life with. On a final note, I've mentioned the great work that Moray McGuffie does through the Gospel One to One Ministry that he leads. Personally, I found this article about sharing your faith with family very helpful.

Have a great week!
