Luminous artwork on show as part of national glass award
Luminous: Tom Malone Prize on display at AGWA until 2 May 2015 | FREE

Now in its fourteenth year the Tom Malone Prize is a highly respected and eagerly anticipated event for contemporary Australian glass artists. This is reflected in the high quality of the prize winners and the competitive shortlists.

This year's prize brings together many of Australia's best glass artists. The display features the work of fourteen artists short-listed for the annual acquisitive award; Ruth Allen, Andrew Baldwin, Gabriella Bisetto, Brian Corr, Mark Eliott and Jack McGrath, Kevin Gordon, Marc Leib, Jeremy Lepisto, Jessica Loughlin, Kumiko Nakajima, Kirstie Rea, Janice Vitkovsky, Zoe Woods and Jamie Worsley.

AGWA curator Robert Cook said, "glass is one of the most exciting and dynamic art forms in this country. It is a uniquely captivating medium, capable of almost endless transformation. Glass provides a perfect vehicle for the exploration of a range of themes, from the personal to the observational."

Since its inception in 2003, the Tom Malone Prize has enabled the Gallery to acquire significant glass works by winners Nick Mount, Jessica Loughlin, Clare Belfrage, Benjamin Sewell, Kevin Gordon, Charles Butcher, Cobi Cockburn, Deirdre Feeney, Brian Corr, Tom Moore and Mel Douglas into the State Art Collection.

The winner of this year's prestigious prize will be announced in early March.
