Bringing a sumptuous quality to the familiar, Róisín O’Farrell’s much anticipated solo show opens at The Doorway Gallery on Thursday 20th of September 2012. Her energetic paintings convey a joyful, vibrant and colourful energy in the everyday. Her work is extensively exhibited throughout Ireland and the UK. The exhibition will be officially opened by Irish radio presenter, Mairead Farrell.
In the twenty three new paintings created for this show, O’Farrell reflects the home in which she lives with her children and the warmth, fun and imperfect character that ‘home’ suggests. Bringing life and a sense of calm with rich application of paint is what makes these images special and give them a unique atmosphere and quality. Even with the absence of figures, her work offers traces of memories, personalities and character that reveal a home that is lived in.
O’Farrell’s passion for the medium of paint is clear and the application of paint is brimming with vitality in her loose and lively depiction of familiar homely scenes. Her solo exhibition at The Doorway Gallery opens at 6pm on Thursday September 20th, (the same week as Culture Night), and will run until October 16th. Róisín will also be giving a painting demonstration at the gallery on Culture Night, Friday Sept 21st between 6 -11pm.
“Painting is my hideaway, my secret garden, my quiet place. Not in the sense of stillness and inactivity because there is life and excitement and ideas, but in that the ideas seem to bypass the part of my brain that might analyze them to death. “Róisín O’Farrell
