Thanks for staying connected
As 2020 comes to a close we are mindful it has been a year in which many Australians have not been OK. However it has also been a year when we have been there for each other, displayed kindness and care for those around us and taken the time to #StayConnected through meaningful conversations to help loved ones navigate life’s ups and downs.

The impact of 2020 will be felt for some time so as we look ahead to 2021, we encourage you to stay alert for the signs that someone in your world might be struggling and lend your support. Ask "Are you OK?", make time to listen and help them find ways to manage the load because a conversation could change a life.
Quick tip: Consider others this Christmas

Being thoughtful in our interactions and approach to others can make a difference this season. You could:
  • Respect any boundaries set by your friends and families.
  • Actively listen to those in your world who want to share.
  • Make time to connect with someone you haven't heard from in a while.
Your support helped start more life-changing conversations
R U OK? is working to increase people's sense of belonging and connection but we can't achieve our mission unless Australians actively support those in their world who might be struggling with life. We conduct regular surveys and research to evaluate the impact of our work which this year has found:
  • 83% of Australians took action in the last month to see how someone was doing. Of these, 80% followed up with the person to see how they were feeling.
  • Participants who were exposed to the R U OK?Day campaign were up to six times more likely to reach out to someone who might be experiencing personal difficulties compared to those not exposed to the campaign.
Thank you for lending your voice, a listening ear and support to others when they need it most.
How to give the gift of conversation

Christmas is the perfect time to pause and consider if there’s someone in your world who might be feeling disconnected or isolated this holiday season. For some Australians, Christmas can be one of the toughest times of the year - their first Christmas since losing a loved one, financial problems, relationship breakdowns, quarantine and closed borders are just some of the things they might be dealing with.

Don’t let it be a silent night for anyone in your world. Reach out to them, give them the gift of a meaningful conversation and show them you care. Learn how here
