A Note from our Pastors...

The holidays can leave us with mixed feelings. We love the pumpkin pie, the apple pie, the pecan pie (ok, what we really love is pie) but sometimes we feel loss and grief even more acutely around holiday tables. We miss people who were always there at our side, or we feel the loneliness of being in a family where we feel like we don’t belong.
There is much to celebrate this weekend - turkey and mashed potatoes and getting together with people we love, but if you feel tinges of grief or sadness, that’s ok too. Family is complicated; it is beautiful, it is a gift, but it comes with heartache, misunderstanding and grief too.
That’s why I love the opening chapter of Matthew, a genealogy of the person of Jesus. Genealogies are not known for being particularly interesting, but what it does say is that Jesus was part of a family. This Sunday we begin a new sermon series called “From Generation to Generation.” Jesus comes in the midst of our stories of husbands, cousins, uncles, aunts, brothers and sisters. Jesus goes right to the heart of where our deepest loves and losses lie, to our families. As you are sitting around the table this weekend, remember that you are not alone because his family tree is just as complex as yours.

Nehemiah: Rebuilding and God's Calling to Us
November 20th, and December, 4th, 11th, 18th
Led by Anne Kalkbrenner

The setting of Nehemiah involves a group of people who have been through a huge “pandemic” of change, including a war, an exile, and now an opportunity to return to Jerusalem and rebuild both the physical walls of the city as well as their spiritual identity as a community of believers who seek God. Although the details of our “pandemic” differ – the need for vision and for direction about how to rebuild our lives and once again see God’s Gracious Hand at work in our generation remains the same. Come join us as we learn from the remarkable and humble leadership of a man who believed that nothing is too difficult for God.

Faith in Action
An ongoing event led by Donna Bensley. Do you wonder about the story behind the news? During this portion of the class, we will hear from several people in our community who came to the U.S. from distant places, such as Afghanistan and Ethiopia. They will share their stories and help us put our faith into action.

Love Your Neighbor

Food Pantry
Our Little Food Pantry is getting lots of action. Grab-and-Go items seem to be the most popular such as: granola bars, individual size nuts, pop-top cans, beans etc. Items that require significant preparation are less utilized. Donations can be left in the bin across from Fellowship Hall.

Neighbor-to-Neighbor is our Deacon's sponsored program to support our congregation members with meals or rides as needed. We currently have a larger number of folks willing to provide meals but would appreciate a few more volunteers to provide rides to occasional medical appointments. If you are able to help, please contact Rocky Meredith at 206.310.6399 or
