Resilience Screening 

On 29th January we hosted a screening of the documentary Resilience alongside the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland and the National Third Sector GIRFEC Project. 

This was a great event with over 150 third sector delegates. Thought-provoking discussions took place around the impact of adverse childhood experiences on practice in the third sector.

Citywide Forum Update

We have published an article on the Citywide Forum's recent meeting with Mike Burns (Assistant Chief Officer, Children’s Services) to discuss their upcoming Children and Young People’s transformational change programme

Business Development Training Programme

In partnership with GCVS' Community Learning & Development Team, we now have a business development training programme for third sector organisations working with children, young people and families. View the full programme here. 

The courses are aimed at Integrated Grant Fund (IGF) organisations. If you receive IGF funding you can book via Eventbrite.
 
If you don’t receive IGF funding but are interested in the training, please contact us at everyoneschildren@gcvs.org.uk

Would you like a bit of FREE one-to-one support to help your organisation? Our experienced Capacity Building Officer, Phil
Broadley, can help with:

  • Funding applications
  • Developing or updating your constitution
  • Registering with OSCR
  • Reviewing business plans
  • Changing your legal status

New Childcare Scheme 

From 14th February 2018, the UK Government are rolling out tax-free childcare accounts to Scottish families for children up to the age of 12.

Children's Mental Health Week 2018 

Children's Mental Health Week took place 5th - 11th February, with third sector organisations across the country advocating for better support services for children and young people.

Cedar Project 

The Cedar Project is a recovery based programme for children and mothers in Glasgow who have experienced domestic abuse. Find out more here. 

Cedar Coordinators will be providing information sessions for organisations to answer any questions about their services. If you are interested in this, please get in touch with the project: cedar@glasgowwomensaid.org.uk

Domestic Abuse Bill Passed

Psychological abuse and coercive control in the home will soon be a criminal offence, after the Domestic Abuse (Scotland) Bill  was passed by the Scottish Parliament. 

Significantly, the Bill privileges the experiences of both women and children, recognising the harm that living with domestic abuse causes. More here.

Impact of Children and Young People's Participation on Policymaking 

The Scottish Government have published a report on the impact of children and young people’s participation on policymaking.

Pupil Equity Fund National Operational Guidance


This guidance is to help schools plan how to most effectively invest their Pupil Equity Fund allocation to improve the educational outcomes of children affected by poverty.

Froebel Play 
Friday 16th February, 9.30am - 4.00pm - Albany Centre 
Froebel approaches to learning through play have influenced the development of modern outdoor nurseries. Learn from expert Lynn McNair about the history and principles of the approach, and how it has been put into practice at the Cowgate Under 5's Centre.

Health & Safety in Childcare 
Tuesday 20th February, 6.30pm to 9.00pm - Albany Centre 
Keeping children of all ages safe and healthy is one of the most important tasks of childcare providers. Whether children are in centre or home-based care, providers are responsible for ensuring safety both inside and outside their childcare setting.

Scotland's Mental Health First Aid Training: Young People
Tuesday 27th February, 9.30 - 16.30 - Albany Centre 
This training is designed for anyone who is interested in supporting young people (aged 11-17) with mental health issues. It comprises one full day’s training +7 hours of at-home learning.

Challenging Behaviour 
Tuesday 6th March, 6.30pm to 9.00pm - Albany Centre 
This evening session explores some of the reasons why children may display challenging or inappropriate behaviour and the techniques used to manage this. The course examines proactive approaches to encourage and support positive, ongoing changes in children’s behaviour.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid 
Wednesday 14th March, 9.30 to 16.30 - Albany Centre 
This full day session will give you a good understanding of the role and responsibilities of the emergency paediatric first aider, and how to assess an emergency situation and prioritise your actions.

One Parent Families Scotland are delivering free energy advice to service users and energy talks to front line workers. These resources and services are for staff and single parents working and living in Glasgow and North Lanarkshire.

Designated Child Protection Officer Training 
Wednesday 14th March, Glasgow 
This NSPCC training is for anyone responsible for receiving concerns about the safety and welfare of children and young people.
