Welcome to the GCVS June 2017 Newsletter

An introduction from our CEO, Helen Macneil:

Colleagues,

While these are unsettling times politically on the European, UK and Scotland stage, at local level here in Glasgow the recent Local Government elections have given much for the city’s Third Sector to celebrate. Prior to the election, all main political parties agreed to support GCVS’s Manifesto, and made a commitment to more positive partnership relationships with the Third Sector.

Recent weeks have seen us meet with key leaders in the new City Government, to discuss practical steps to deliver our key Manifesto ‘Ask’ for a Transformed Relationship between the Third Sector and the City Government, and on Monday 26th June we were part of a wide range of reps from our TSI Third Sector Executive Committee (the TSEC) who met with the Depute Council Leader, David MacDonald.

We were briefed on how the City Government plans to deliver our manifesto commitments and we began an important dialogue about improving communications and joint work. An early action will be a TSI/Council Third Sector Summit, to be held in early Autumn.

We’ll share information about this as our plans develop, so we encourage all our members & networks to work with us and our TSI colleagues in the coming months - to support and shape this event, and to bring about real transformational change in the city.

Helen
