Hope you are having a good summer and that you have enjoyed the beautiful weather. Things are progressing well around the new Concordat between Glasgow’s Third Sector and the City Council. After concluding the consultation period, an event is being held at Glasgow City Chambers on the Thursday 23rd of August where Deputy Leader of Glasgow City Council, David McDonald, will officially launch the Concordat.

Registration is of course free, and can be done easily through Eventbrite, here.
Places for the event will be limited, so make sure you register now to avoid disappointment! Hope to see you there.

Best wishes,
Liz McEntee
Director of External Affairs
Data Protection

New data protection law affecting all organisations began in May and we would hope that all GCVS Members have already reviewed their systems, policies and practices to ensure compliance with the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR.)

The Data Protection Network is a useful site and has just posted 10 GDPR Survival Tips, as it's important to remember that you need to continually ensure compliance with the new regulation even after the deadline!

Child Protection

It’s everyone's job to keep children and young people safe.
Third Sector organisations working with children and young people have an important role in identifying when child might be at risk of significant harm.
The GCVS Everyone’s Children programme runs regular Child Protection Awareness courses to help staff and volunteers to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect. The next course is on 21st August and there is a discount available for GCVS Members. Book
here.

Everyone’s Children also works with the Children, Young People and Families Citywide Forum and Glasgow’s Child Protection Committee (CPC). They are offering a training session for Third Sector staff who may be asked to attend Child Protection Case Conferences on 14th August. This training is free but limited to one place per organisation. Book here.
