DINING ROOM UPDATE

As of December 2nd, we started offering meals both for dine-in and to-go. Our dining room reopened with reduced capacity to allow social distancing and guests wear masks whenever they are not sitting and eating. Guests have appreciated the opportunity to come in out of the cold, and some have expressed gratitude for the flexibility of taking their meal to -go while COVID numbers are still high. We upped our cleaning and sanitizing practices to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible!
OUTREACH

We would love to start making more presentations about Free Lunch to civic groups or faith congregations as part of our efforts to expand our community of guests, volunteers, and donors. If you are part of a group that might be interested in the work that FLP has been doing for the past 39 years, please reach out and we will schedule a visit!

For more information, contact Kai at icfreelunch@gmail.com.
VOLUNTEER UPDATE

First-time volunteers have found us through a variety of platforms and it has been great to welcome them to the program!

As we've expanded our base of volunteers, we have heard some questions about opportunities for kids to help out at FLP. Any volunteer under the age of 15 must be directly supervised by an accompanying adult; we also ask that everyone use careful judgement about only bringing age-appropriate young people into the kitchen.
OPEN DAYS

Our Sign-Up Genius for open days in February, March, and April is online! Please consider coming in to help us out; open days are always fun and we all get to work with new people!

WINTER ITEM DISTRIBUTION
A huge thank you to the many people who donated hats, gloves, socks, scarves, and hand/foot warmers! We continue to distribute winter gear on the coldest days and many of our guests have asked us to pass along their thanks! Warm winter items are a necessity and having access to them really makes a difference to the people who visit FLP.

A special shout out to the 3rd graders at St. Mary's Solon, who brought us many boxes of donated goods, most of which were adorned with handwritten notes!

WANT TO JOIN OUR BOARD?
The FLP Board of Directors meets quarterly and serves an integral role in the mission of Free Lunch. At the end of 2022, we will have to say goodbye to five board members who have served the maximum term limits! Will you consider filling their shoes? Or do you know someone who would make a great addition to our board?
Please reach out to Kai at icfreelunch@gmail.com.
Did You Know . . .

The giving season may be over, but FLP still needs your support year-round.

The Free Lunch Program has continued to serve meals daily, Monday through Saturday, during the entire pandemic? Because of this, nearly 32,000 meals were served in 2020 to members of our community.  This service continues today, and your support during this difficult time is invaluable.

Please consider a donation to FLP.
  • $15 provides coffee for one week.
  • $25 provides milk or juice for one day's lunch.
  • $50 buys about 1,000 pounds of food from the HACAP regional food bank.
Donations can be made through ACH by emailing icfreelunch@gmail.com, through PayPal on our website, or by check to FLP, 1105 S. Gilbert Ct. #100, Iowa City 52240.
