"If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it... But even if he does not.... we will not serve your gods..." Daniel 3:17-18

But if not, God is still Good

September 2015
Dear Friend,

It amazes me how God crafts our stories before we’re even born.

Even the new baby we’re expecting in October has a story already. In our last update, we briefly mentioned there were some concerns about our baby that required further investigation. An additional scan in Newcastle revealed problems with the baby's stomach (duodenal atresia) and heart (tetralogy of fallot) that will require surgery soon after birth. Additionally the doctor believes there's a high likelihood the baby will have Down Syndrome.

This news knocked us off our feet, but it wasn't a surprise to God. He is faithful, and has a plan for this little one.

We've been blessed by the love, support and prayers we're receiving from around the world from those that already know some of the details. Many have been praying for healing for the baby and peace for us.

I recently read the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and the fiery furnace. Because of their refusal to bow to King Nebuchadnezzar's statue, they were cast into the fiery furnace. Before they received their sentence, they told the king they were confident God would deliver them, but even if God didn't deliver them, they would still worship Him (Daniel 3:17-18).

This lesson is one that we're learning as we walk through this season of life. We know that God can heal this baby of his or her abnormalities, and that is our prayer. We also know that even if He doesn't heal our little one, He's still good. We also pray that God will give us the love, strength, courage, peace and wisdom to raise this sweet baby He has blessed our family with.

Please join us in prayer over the next several weeks and months as we anticipate our new baby's arrival and all the uncertainties that come with him or her.

In Other News

Because of all the doctor appointments and normal busyness of life it took us 2-3 weeks to get our feet under after returning from the US. We are getting back into our ministry of hospitality and involvement at church.

At work, things have been slow because it is summer. I (Leon) had quite of backlog to sort through and catching up to do. It took me a few weeks, but I have sorted through most of that backlog of work. I have now setting up and trialling a helpdesk system called Request Tracker. I am excited to see if this works for us as a more unified way to track our users problems and give better support.

August Highlights

  • We've had lots of medical appointments for the baby. We almost have a new home at the RVI hospital in Newcastle.
  • We made the first major improvement on our house: a new roof on the conservatory (sun room).
  • We recently painted the exterior of our house a new colour.
  • We had a BBQ with friends over a recent 3 day weekend.
  • Leon took the kids blackberry picking a few times. They both really enjoyed it.

Prayer Points

  • Leon was very poorly last week with gastroenteritis. Please pray for his quick recovery and for good health for our family.
  • Chrysti's amniotic fluid level got dangerously high and needed draining this week so as to avert premature delivery.
  • After an echocardiogram on Tuesday, the baby's heart condition is looking positive and hopefully won't need multiple medical interventions prior to the main surgery 6-9 months after birth. This is an answer to prayer!
  • God is providing all the babysitters we need during all our recent long days at hospital for baby scans.
  • Pray for us as we parent our children in the coming days of preparing for a new baby with special health needs.
God Bless,
