ICONYC labs, based in NYC, is an acceleration program customized for early-stage Israeli tech startups looking to build successful global companies via NYC.

Friends of ICONYC!

We hope your spring is off to a great start! It definitely has been for Israeli tech - 2019 has been a whirlwind year for investments into Israeli startups, with 128 deals during Q1/2019 totaling $1.55 billion, showing more robust financing rounds for startups from seed to growth.

To top that, insurtech startup Lemonade just announced raising $300 million Series D led by SoftBank, while analytics company Sisense announced this week it acquired Persicope Data to build an integrated data science and analytics solution. With an annual revenue of more than $100 million from over 2,000 customers in 2019, Sisense is on the verge of joining the NYC-TLV unicorn club.

Startup Nation is all in on growing massive companies and a fertile ground for mega funding rounds and exits, a trend that is becoming the norm since the beginning of the year.

But what’s causing the shift? Amit Karp, Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, argues on a recent medium post that it’s a combination of a new set of buyers such as Coca-Cola, Disney, and McDonald’s, who recently acquired the personalization startup Dynamic Yield for $300 million; IPOs making a comeback with “many Israeli startups poised to go public”; and of course, the evolution of the mega funding rounds, which is taking Silicon Valley, NYC tech, and now Israeli tech by storm.

With this exciting growth, also comes great challenges and Israeli startups are entering into uncharted territory. On top of game changing technologies, it’s critical they can successfully build a strong company culture, team diversity and scale up across different geographies and time zones. This was a big topic of discussion at our annual founders dinner held this week, hosting CEOs of some of the top NYC and Israeli startups, including the likes of Outbrain, Handy, INTURN, Innovid and Bizzabo among others. The big take-away from our dinner? The more connected companies are, through video calls, company values and specific employees who serve as the “glue”, the more successful the company will be.

Will Startup Nation become Mega Nation? Time will tell, but based on 2019 we’re definitely heading in that direction.

Founders Spotlight - Meet ICONYC's New Investments and Founders

Back here in NYC, we continue to grow the ICONYC family. In April, we have partnered with two new companies disrupting areas in advertising technology, future of hiring and community development. We’re excited to introduce you to our latest additions Fixel and Joobilix, representing the best of Startup Nation.

When it comes to digital marketing, not all visitors are the same. Yet, companies and advertisers overspend far marketing dollars because they can’t differentiate between the engaged from the unengaged, with current solutions falling short when it comes to knowing not just who, but why your visitors convert. Co-founders Etgar Shpivak (CEO), Hadar Shpivak (CTO) and Elad Levy (Product) are going after this problem with Fixel, an AI-powered audience segmentation for the post-GDPR era. Unlike other ad-tech platforms, Fixel completely anonymizes all data and keeps ownership in the hands of the advertisers themselves, helping them increase their bottom line.

With over 50 paying clients in across the US and Israel, Fixel has already helped brands and e-commerce platforms increase revenue by 300%, as well as cut marketing costs. After raising a pre-seed round of $800,000 from key industry investors, the team partnered with ICONYC to increase it’s NYC footprint and accelerate growth.

In today’s world, belonging to a specific community or network can define your career. And yet, most communities do not have a designed platform that empowers sourcing great opportunities, and candidates. Meet Joobilix, the first all-in-one solution for community monetization and recruiting through events.

Co-founders Rachel Ben Shoshe (CEO), Keren Greengrass (Product) and Barak Hanmmel (CTO) met at Israel’s leading ‘IDC Beyond program’, where they encountered the problem of smart hiring within their own community and decided to take action, launching a platform that enables enterprises, candidates and community managers to directly engage using smart tools and features. Since launching the platform, Joobilix engaged over 500 companies, creating over 30,000 applications from over 10,000 candidates. We’re excited to have the Joobilix team as part of the ICONYC family as they expand to NYC. Welcome aboard!
