Our Alumni Are Rockstars!
Brothers Javier and Fabian Han, along with their coach Peter Han, were extremely busy this month and we are happy to share their exciting endeavors. This month Fabian is featured as one of the USA's Top Ten Inventors in Popular Science’s Sept. 2012 issue (page 54). He received the notoriety for his team’s H2O invention which won the 2012 Spirit of Innovation Challenge Health and Nutrition Category. Never ones to rest on their laurels, the Han brothers are co-organizing the TEDxTheWoodlands (Play.Wonder.Joy.) conference taking place Aug. 26, and Javier will be a guest speaker at TEDxSugarland (Age of Wonderment) Aug. 25. We are lucky to also have them presenting at the Houston Launch event to help us kick-off this year’s Spirit of Innovation Challenge. Keep up the great work!

This is going to be a fantastic Conrad Challenge year, so we are busy behind the scenes making things even better for you and your team. We added more than 60 languages to our website and many new features we think will make participating in our online community fun and easy to use.
The site is now ready for new student registration and team creation. For our hyper-achievers, starting Sept. 13, the submission portal will be ready to accept abstract applications. Now is the time to begin your brainstorming sessions so YOU can be ready for the Oct. 24 abstract deadline. The best place to start is in our online resources. There, you can watch videos, recorded Webinars and register for a 2012-2013 Webinar today.
Chairman’s Corner: Notes from Nancy Conrad
I had the pleasure of attending the Milken Scholars Awards dinner in Los Angeles July 28. It was an honor to be with Michael Milken and his wife Lori who began the program in 1989. With us was Jane Foley, the director of the Milken Scholars program, and our dear friend Metuka Benjamin, president of the Milken Community High School and Middle School Campus. The program tapped 21 high school seniors as the 2012 Milken Scholars.
This program equips talented young men and women with the resources to become "Lifelong Leaders for a Better World". Each Scholar receives a $10,000 scholarship plus opportunities for ongoing mentoring, counseling, assistance with internships, opportunities for community service, and access to a range of resources for their academic and professional careers. It is one thing to read about these amazing students, it is quite another to be with them and to see their joy and enthusiasm as they received their awards. Congratulations to the Milken Scholars Class of 2012.
