National Families in Action introduces our new Science Advisory Board –
and 25 podcasts we recorded in which they bring you the latest marijuana science!
In celebration of today’s fifth anniversary of The Marijuana Report, National Families in Action (NFIA) is introducing its new Science Advisory Board (SAB) consisting of world-renowned scientists in the addiction field. NFIA is pleased to have such high-caliber researchers willing to give their time to help the public understand what scientists know about marijuana.
To prepare for the podcasts, scientists formulated the questions they believe the public needs to know about marijuana and then recorded their answers in the podcasts. They cover information about the harmful effects of marijuana and the potential beneficial effects of some of its components. A grant from the Annie E. Casey Foundation enabled the creation of this podcast series titled, “What Do I Need to Know about Marijuana?”
See profiles of the scientists on our SAB here.
We are releasing the first three podcasts today and will release the other 22 once a week in each issue of The Marijuana Report. See brief summaries of the podcasts and their release dates here.
Today’s podcasts discuss marijuana and driving by one of the world’s leading researchers on the topic, Marilyn Huestis, PhD.
Marijuana and Driving
Dr. Huestis persuaded the federal National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to let her use its national advanced driving simulator to learn whether marijuana impairs the ability to drive safely. Hear what she and her team discovered.
State Regulations to Ensure Road Safety
Dr. Huestis says states are not prepared to ensure road safety when it comes to marijuana-impaired drivers, and that is a huge problem. Listen to why she says that here.
How Other Nations Ensure Road Safety
Dr. Huestis explains policies other nations are pursuing to safeguard public roads. Find out how they do it here.
Next week’s podcast?
Dr. Michael Kuhar on Medical Marijuana.
