Surgeon General Issues Marijuana Advisory

At a press conference this morning, government health officials, including Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, joined Surgeon General Jerome Adams in unveiling the Surgeon General’s Advisory on Marijuana and the Developing Brain.

Key points include:

  • Marijuana harms the developing brain from conception through young adulthood.
  • No use of marijuana by adolescents or pregnant women is safe.
  • While components may be developed into useful medicines, marijuana itself has not been approved for any medical use.
  • The higher the THC levels and the younger use begins, the greater the risk of addiction and other health problems.
