  • After many years on Motor Avenue, West Coast Couture, formerly located at 3314 Motor, is moving. Feel free to pay them a visit before they're gone! We wish them much luck and success in their future endeavors!
  • Palms Spa will be relocating away from Motor Avenue. MAIA worked with LAPD Vice to encourage this move, as the business was viewed as inappropriate directly across the street from an elementary school.

New Bus Benches Have Arrived on Motor!

The city is installing new bus benches, replacing the old brown ones with new green benches. The new design is meant to deter graffiti and prevent liquids and waste from pooling in the bench seat. MAIA has worked with the city to have the benches in our area replaced as soon as possible, and we are proud to announce that the new benches were installed May 4!

Thanks to Palms Neighborhood Council for their work on beautifying the electrical boxes throughout Palms!

Safe & Secure Neighborhood Program

We have been working to create a comprehensive security camera network for our local businesses and lower security costs for all involved. If you are interested in installing a new camera system or upgrading your current one, please contact us at info@motorassociation.org and we will put you in touch with the vendor we are working with.

Street Closures and Parking Removal for Expo Line Construction

At the end of May, K-rail installation under the Motor Avenue Bridge will necessitate the removal of 16 parking spaces for the duration of the project(12-18 months). According to Expo, the k-rail will be installed:
  • East side of Motor Avenue: K-rail will start on the north side of the Kline Academy of Fine Art and continue north to the mid-way point under the I-10 bridge.  There will be a gap in the k-rail for the P&C Auto Body and Auto Service entrance.
  • West side of Motor Avenue: K-rail will start from the red curb area just south of the Motor Avenue Bridge near Irene Street and continue to the north end where the I-10 bridge ends.
Subsequently, there will be four to five nights of construction around the bridge at the beginning of June. Lane closures will be necessary, so the work will be done at night.

We are aware of the problems this will pose for the businesses in the immediate area, and that coupled with the traffic calming measures and the hundreds of parking spots already lost to the Expo Line, this could deal a damaging blow to your business's bottom line. The loss of any parking on this street is a problem, and are working to remedy it as quickly as possible. We are not convinced that it is necessary to block this many parking spots for such a long time, and hope to come to a more amenable solution with the Expo Authority.

We have been meeting and working with Metro and Expo to minimize the inconveniences caused by these closures and we will keep you updated with more details as the construction dates near. If you have any questions regarding the Expo Line or street closures, feel free to call or email us.
