How Balanced Is Your 2016 Plan?

Content for the win | Vol. 5, No. 1

Inbound marketing serves a real need, but the over-glorification of its parts—blog posts, landing pages, white papers, etc.—is rampant and unnecessary.

What is necessary: Every business must identify how it acquires and nurtures leads. Some will need to rely on inbound more than others.

So Many Questions...

Asking the right questions is the foundation of strategy. Albert Einstein said, “If I had 20 days to solve a problem, I would spend 19 days to define it.”

Therefore, I'd like to ask...who owns brand voice at your company? How is brand voice communicated to staff, customers and the local community? Is it believable? Is it memorable? Does it move people to buy?

We'd love to discuss these matters or any other marketing challenges with you in our downtown Portland offices.

Need To Know

  1. Take a hike! About 20 percent of REI Adventures’ business comes from customers over 60.
  2. Here is your chance to own a piece of living architectural history in AZ—the final home that Frank Lloyd Wright designed is for sale.
  3. In favor of Keats—my friend, Tom Asacker is going to "stop connecting all the dots," all the time.
  4. Richard Huntington of Saatchi & Saatchi believes that successful brands have four qualities: A clear purpose; Authenticity; Performance; and Energy.
  5. Scott Jensen of RPA points out six ways for the brand train to jump the track.
  6. According to the Oregon Employment Department, 5.5% of the people who work in Oregon live in Washington.
  7. For the third year in a row, Oregon is the nation’s top relocation destination. 19 percent of new Oregon residents say they came for the lifestyle, including access to outdoor recreation.
  8. Create real feedback loops for best performance. "The promise of anonymity is a common way to encourage frank input, but allowing employees to remain unidentified actually underscores the risks of speaking up—and reinforces people’s fears."
