Find the Event for You

The days are growing shorter, and summer is slowly coming to an end, but we have got a fantastic fall with amazing events ahead of us!  With so many great functions to choose from, we are convinced that you will find one that fits you.

Meet the Director of IWIS

Zhila Pirmoradi tells her SCWIST story.
Attending the 2012 XX Evening was my first experience of SCWIST, and I immediately realized I wanted to get an opportunity to join the successful women behind the scenes. As a first step, I became a volunteer for a 2013 event that centered on Canadian culture.

The engagement and the support shown by the organizers made me feel like I belonged in this organization. After the event, I joined the IWIS - Immigrating Women in Science - committee as a volunteer, and met a team of enthusiastic volunteers focused on creating empowerment opportunities for immigrant women in STEM.

Working with Lee Ling Yang (the IWIS director at the time) was a learning and insightful experience for me. Not only did I feel like I belonged in SCWIST, but I also started feeling responsible for, and committed to, helping to meet the organization's objectives. The resulting motivation helped me enhance my communication skills significantly, and led to an expansion of my professional network. Since 2014 I have been Director of IWIS, and the involvement has benefited me both personally and professionally.

Volunteer Opportunity

Calling all graphic designers!
At SCWIST we are always looking for people willing to volunteer their skills to help make us an even better organization. Currently, we are especially interested in someone with experience in graphic design to help us create promotional material such as posters, brochures etc.

Is that you? Or do you know someone who might be interested? Please send a mail to the Director of Communication!
