Time to Get Involved!
Is this part of your new year resolution?

Whether you want to get involved to make your community a better place, to boost your resume, or to meet new friends,  this newsletter issue has plenty of opportunities! If you need some inspiration, read about why our Director of Strategic Development got involved with SCWIST.

Why did you get involved with SCWIST?

SCWIST gives me a place to help build the professional and personal confidence of fellow scientists, technologists, engineers and mathematicians (STEM'ers). After a committee meeting, I am buzzing with ideas of how to shape a better future and from the great discussions with inspiring STEM women! I develop both personally and skill-wise, and have recently made a career move much due to the realizations I made during the 'Tools for Transition' workshop in Sept 2014. That feeling of sisterhood at each SCWIST event is rare and unique! - Janny Marie, Director of Strategic Development

Science World Opportunity

Want to support and motivate high school students with original tech-based projects?

Future Science Leaders (FSL) is a Science World teen program to inspire and challenge the top students to excel in science and technology. We are looking for engineering / computer science / coding enthusiasts to mentor students as they work on projects incorporating electronics, design and programming.

Mentors can get involved in several ways: by participating in a speed mentoring night on Feb 5 at Science World, or mentoring in-person on some Thursday evenings between Feb & Apr.

If interested, email Jane O’Hara, FSL Engineering Instructor, at johara@scienceworld.ca. (Jane is also the SCWIST VP!)
