November's Player of the Month!

Matt Alden started improving based on a dare 12 years ago and he hasn’t stopped since. He is a member of Rapid Fire Theatre but is also a regular player in the improvised soap opera Die-Nasty and the comedy troupe These Men Are Blacklisted. Matt writes, acts in, and produces plays including the sterling nominated Edmund and the award winning Real Time. Television has become his main career besides improv. We caught up with Matt on the set of his TV show Caution: May Contain Nuts to chat about improv.

Tied between an amazing scene I once had with Nathan Fillion and the time I had a sword in a hilt that got knocked out and stabbed another performer in the foot. So… yeah. I stabbed a guy. The crowd loved it. I cried.

“Best of Fest, 2015” – Vancouver International Improv Festival. TEDxRFT is an improvised TED Talk. Using slides they haven’t seen and speaking on a topic they get from the audience, Kory Mathewson and Julian Faid present totally improvised powerpoint presentations right before your eyes. It is the academic equivalent of sword fighting blindfolded. You’d have to be a fool to try it.

In a world… where every movie… is advertised with a trailer… Paul Blinov, Joe Vanderhelm and Matt Schuurman have the audience choose a trailer for an actual yet-to-be released hollywood film, then, based on that trailer alone, the three men act out the film in it’s entirety – saving you $16.25 at Cineplex!
