Hove StressBusters Talks & Demonstrations

Hove StressBusters 3rd Birthday Special
     The 3rd birthday event is behind us - it was wonderful to take stock of all the things we've done in the past 12 months and reveal the plans for our fourth year, including the brand new Hove StressBusters card (see below).
     Over the last three years our stress management programme has evolved into a vibrant and diverse community of practitioners and all those interested in learning about the different approaches to health and wellbeing. We have outgrown the boundaries of Hove and Brighton, and people as far as Worthing, Seaford and Eastbourne have been coming to our events, eager to learn new stress-busting tools and share their enthusiasm, knowledge and views with like-minded individuals. 

What We've Been Up To...
Introductory talk by Dr Jelena Nesic, the Programme Director     The evening started off with an introductory talk by our Programme Director, Dr Jelena Nesic Goranovicwho gave a brief overview of the ideas that led to the creation of Hove StressBusters. Showing pictures from all the different talks and demonstrations that the group organized over the last 12 months, ranging from HypnotherapyMindfulness and Coaching, to Laughter YogaClinical Psychoneuroimmunology and Matrix Re-imprinting, was a compelling way to illustrate the eclectic nature of the programme.
     As a communication platform for mainstream and alternative wellbeing practitioners, Hove StressBusters strive to present as diverse approaches as possible, both the scientifically-based and validated techniques, and those that have not yet undergone extensive controlled research. The programme's main mission is to enable people to understand the main ideas behind different approaches, the similarities and differences between various theoretical viewpoints, and to discover those wellbeing approaches that work best for them personally.

Tackling Stress from Different Angles
Hatha/Dru Yoga demo with Sarah Dawson     Following Jelena's introduction, we had a chance to experience three very different approaches, each tackling stress from a different angle.
     Sarah Dawson,
 a Hatha/Dru Yoga teacher, briefly introduced the group to the therapeutic style of Yoga she teaches and the simple energizing exercises that can be done with very little effort, sitting down or standing up.
EFT & Ho'oponopono with John Blosse     John Blosse, EFT Master Practitioner, demonstrated a very powerful way of transforming and overcoming negative emotions using a combination of the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and the ancient Hawaiian spiritual approach called Ho'oponopono

     Finally, Nikola Goranovic, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP) Trainer and Performance Coach, demonstrated how coaching challenges our belief system in order to unlock our inner resources and he utilized a mix of NLP-based techniques

to throw us all into a relaxing hypnotic trance.
     These three stress-busting segments were a perfect way to illustrate that there are so many ways to achieve the same effect (manage stress), and that it's all about exploring different approaches to discover the tools that work best for you.

What Next?
     Jelena finished off the evening by describing the various sections of the Hove StressBusters community programme, which run in addition to the regular talk & demonstration events on the first Wednesday of every month. These include weekly qigong classes, mindfulness workshops and courses, and the Stress & Anxiety Self-Coaching Support Group

De-Stress Tips

Autumn is a time for less "pushing" – in all areas of your life – and more gentle "pulling" to help us have a smooth stress-free transition during the seasonal change we are experiencing.
NURTURE YOUR BODY I recommend plenty of skin brushing and epsom salts baths these next few weeks, less alcohol and supplements, and more soothing nurturing bone broth soups and stews and energised, filtered water to really hydrate and move those toxins out. Not so much fruit now, but use seasonal wild berries - blackberries and apples to keep you going through winter. Think lovely apple and blackberry crumbles and smoothies...
KEEP ACTIVE I recommend you get out for some long walks in nature or by the sea, dig and clear in the garden, stretch and move your body to keep the lymph flowing and your endorphins firing as we move towards the months ahead of less daylight. And don't forget to plan and engage in fun social activities or take on a new hobby or creative pursuit to keep your mind focused on something greater than yourself and keep your mood boosted.
CREATE YOUR 'HAVEN' This is also a great to time have a clear out - the "autumn" clean up at home to make it a lovely homely space to be in over the next few months. Especially focus on making your bedroom a peaceful haven so you can get a restorative sleep at night. You may also want to consider getting a natural daylight lamp in your home if the lack of daylight affects your mood.

Come along to our next meeting where we will tackle stress using the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Ho'oponopono
These monthly meetings present an opportunity to work on your issues in an intimate group setting. During the sessions, you will be able to acquire some useful self-help tools and strategies for managing stress and anxiety. There is also plenty of opportunity for brief one on one work with the therapist, usually done in a content-free manner - this means that you are not required to provide any details of the issues you would like to resolve unless, of course, you wish to share them with the group.

REM Induction Therapy Study
3 FREE Rapid Eye Movement Induction Therapy (REMitâ„¢) and/or NLP sessions are offered as part of a new randomized controlled study conducted by Dr Jelena Nesic (INNERNATION Coaching & Development) and Dr Susan Sullivan (University of Sussex). This study aims to validate and extend the REMitâ„¢ method, a novel therapeutic approach which combines NLP, EMDR, kinesiology and hypnosis techniques. The study is open to volunteers who wish to address specific anxiety-related issues, including fears, phobias and mental blocks.
