Hove StressBusters Talks & Demonstrations

Last week we had yet another Hove StressBusters evening to remember, with two engaging speakers, a lovely group of people and two fascinating approaches to physical and psychological wellbeing. A big thank you to our speakers as well as to everyone else who was there last night, contributing to the discussions and taking part in the demonstrations. As always, it was great to see quite a few people coming to the pub after the event – the post-event drinks are most certainly becoming an integral part of our evening of stress busting in Hove.

Systematic Kinesiology
Systematic Kinesiology with Linda Belcher    Linda Belcher, is an experienced practitioner and trainer of Systematic Kinesiology. She explained to us the basic principles behind this technique and how it can be used as a powerful and sophisticated tool for treating an individual in a completely holistic way - chemically, structurally, emotionally and electro-magnetically. In her talk, Linda explained and demonstrated how muscle testing can be used to accurately pinpoint where someone is out of balance and how, during the treatment, it is possible to find exactly which technique is required to return the individual to homeostasis. The volunteers participating in demonstrations said that they were amazed by the procedure and how just the proximity of a specific supplement or even a glass of water changed their muscle response.
This holistic technique blends principles of traditional oriental medicine and knowledge about the body’s subtle energy systems with more modern western techniques (e.g. muscle testing biofeedback, brain integration exercises). Although the research into the effectiveness of Kinesiology is lacking - probably due to the lack of funding and the general difficulty of systematically studying such an individually-tailored therapeutic approach - , many individuals who have tried it out find it to be an extremely effective technique for reducing stress and improving physical and psychological wellbeing.
Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT)
IEMT with John Martin Moore     Based on the idea that moving eyes from side to side stimulates the brain's hemispheres, enabling them to more effectively process emotional issues, Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a technique used when working with a variety of stress-related issues, including limiting beliefs, anxiety, phobias, weight management and eating disorders, etc. John Martin Moore, a clinical hypnotherapist and IEMT practitioner and trainer, introduced the group to this brief and content-free process that generates rapid change in the area of undesired emotional and identity imprints. By evoking the troublesome emotional issues and building resources inside that problem state, IEMT brings the client more into the present and enables them to stay out of the past negative experiences permanently.
After John demonstrated the process on a couple of volunteers, we all did a few rounds of it ourselves, splitting into pairs and taking turns at being the practitioner and the client. It was a really strange and impressive experience - the process of moving eyes drastically reduced the intensity of the negative emotional that each 'client' was working on. In fact, for most people, it actually made it really difficult to even think about the negative emotional issue that they were working on!

Common Stress-Related Problems

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)OCD affects about 1-2% of the population and, although the symptoms very often start in childhood, they may start later and continue to develop into adulthood. Obsessive worrying about certain things (e.g. cleanliness) and compulsively performing behavioural rituals to relieve the worrying (e.g. hand washing) can produce significant disruption to a person’s life, often leaving them unable to think about or engage in any other activities. ...
