Hove StressBusters Talks & Demonstrations
Hove StressBusters 1st Birthday Special
Thanks to everyone who joined us at our birthday celebration last week - it was lovely to see you all!
The evening started off with an introductory talk by our Programme Director, Dr Jelena Goranovic, who gave a brief overview of the ideas that led to the creation of Hove StressBusters as well as the various events that the group organized over the past 12 months. Four practitioners followed, sharing some quite simple yet extremely effective stress-busting techniques with us.
With the guidance of John Blosse, an EFT Master Practitioner, and Maya Zack, one of the few Sedona Method practitioners in the UK, we practised freeing ourselves from negative/unhelpful emotions and even physical aches and pains using these two powerful techniques. After the break, we approached stress from a more physical angle and Penny Zikic, a Scaravelli Yoga teacher, ran a brief chair yoga session which had a profoundly calming effect on us all. Our last presenter, the NLP Master Practitioner Nikola Goranovic, explored our attachment to words and concepts, and guided us through a visualisation procedure which served the purpose of releasing the emotional grip that certain objects/people have over us. Jelena finished the evening by describing some of the activities that we plan to include in our programme of events over the next 12 months.
If it's possible, we actually did too much stress busting in one evening - with four different techniques instead of the usual two, it was like getting knocked out from four different directions! Well, drinks afterwards helped to get our neurotransmitters going again. ;)
A great way to de-stress: birthday presents from our practitioners & a perfect way to start another year of stress busting here in Hove (and Brighton, of course!)

Common Stress-Related Problems
STRESS & SLEEP Stress and sleep problems go hand in hand... Stressful situations, whether they are major problems/losses or minor daily hassle, often keep us awake at night as we constantly ruminate over them. Conversely, lack of sleep or an irregular sleep pattern (e.g. having a baby or working night shifts) can make us stressed and more prone to negative mood during the day. Very often, having a chronic sleep problem works as a self-fulfilling prophecy: people go to bed stressing about the night ahead and, not surprisingly... the problem reccurs! ... Read more
NUTS Nuts are the perfect little nutritional package, providing the potential needed for new plant life to grow. This makes them great sources of the nutrients we need to help us cope with stress – B vitamins, zinc, magnesium and omega oils – but which are quickly used up during the stress response. Nuts can help break this vicious cycle of stress and nutrient depletion as they naturally balance blood sugar levels and were shown to reduce sugar cravings, regulate appetite and support metabolism. The fats they contain – omega oils and monounsaturated fats – have been found to help curb overeating cycles and, contrary to some health messages, those with nuts in their diet are very often more successful at weight management. Nuts would have been a key component of our ancestor’s hunter-gatherer diet and so we have evolved with them to help support our immune regulation. They provide crucial protein for vegetarians, especially those who are stressed.
