January may seem a bit dull after all the excitement (and stress!) of the Christmas season, but it's a good month for having some time for yourself, taking stock and making a fresh start. We have taken a break this month to recharge our batteries and are now ready for more stress-busting action in 2014. You can expect new talks & demonstrations, workshops and more in the coming months... Don't forget to spread the word and enable more people to discover effective ways of dealing with stress and enhancing their wellbeing.

De-Stressing with
Hatha Yoga, Hypnosis & Self-Hypnosis

Yoga is the ancient system of movement, breath and mindfulness exercises, which has been shown to have a number of beneficial effects on physical and psychological wellbeing. Hatha yoga in particular is one of the most effective ways of stimulating our body's natural relaxation response making us calmer in the face of everyday stressors and boosting our mood and energy levels. Penelope Zikic is a Hatha Yoga teacher whose personal practice and teaching are under a strong influence of the discoveries of Vanda Scaravelli, an Italiant student of B. K. S. Iyengar. Penny will introduce the group to the basic principles of yoga and run a brief chair yoga session, aiming to demonstrate that yoga isn't all about stretching the body into improbable positions, but is something that can be performed by people of different levels of physical ability.

Once controversial but now subject to increasing scientific interest, hypnosis is traditionally used as a method of relaxing and accessing the greater portion of our minds known as the 'unconscious mind', which is like a storehouse of all our learnings, the seat of our emotions and operator of our autonomic functions and behaviours. As its name implies, self hypnosis is the hypnotic state generated by self without the assistance of a hypnotherapist. When we enter this state in a purposeful way, whether that be for achieving relaxation or connecting with self for goal facilitation or greater control, the benefits are numerous and immense. We are very pleased to announce that our guest speaker this month will be the renowned Master Hypnotherapist, Certified Hypnosis and NLP Trainer and founder of The International Hypnosis Society, Russell Potts. During this session we will get the opportunity to learn a few easy to use methods for achieving deep levels of relaxation as well as gain a pragmatic understanding of how the mind functions.

More Stress-Busting in 2014

The new series of monthly Mindfulness workshops run by Jo Turner is starting on Monday 27th January. These drop-in sessions will take place on the 4th Monday of every month @ 7.30pm - 9.30pm and are suitable for beginners as well as for those who wish to practice and extend their existing mindfulness skills. The next 6 week Mindfulness course also run by Jo is scheduled to begin on 24th of April - please contact us to reserve a place on this course.

From February we'll be holding regular Stress & Anxiety Self-Coaching Support Group meetings on the 3rd Monday of every month @ 7.30pm - 9pm. These monthly meetings present an opportunity to work on your issues in an intimate group setting. During the sessions, you will be able to acquire some useful self-help tools and strategies for managing stress and anxiety, based on a variety of coaching and therapeutic techniques. There will also be plenty of opportunity for brief one on one work with the coach or therapist (session facilitator).
In order to ensure that the group remains small, the number of places is restricted to 10, so pre-booking is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.

All sessions will take place at the Cornestone Community Centre, Church Road, Hove.

Research News

REM Induction Therapy Study3 FREE Rapid Eye Movement Induction Therapy (REMit™) and/or NLP sessions are offered as part of a new randomized controlled study conducted by Dr Jelena Nesic (INNERNATION Coaching & Development). This study aims to validate and extend the REMit™ method, a novel therapeutic approach which combines NLP, Wingwave Coaching and hypnosis techniques. The study is open to volunteers who wish to address specific anxiety-related issues, incl. fears, phobias and mental blocks.
