Permaculture at George Jones Farm

(one-credit hour course)

starts Saturday Feb 9 at 1 PM.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Learn hands-on ecological design principles and practices at a working organic farm and nature preserve. With Permaculture being a comprehensive design methodology, students will be immersed in a wide range of theoretical and practical strategies that are powerful tools to create a truly sustainable society. A growing global movement, Permaculture techniques are being implemented to restore damaged and degraded eco and social systems by greening deserts, growing food forests, and building community-based, solution-oriented networks. Classes will be a combination of lecture, discussion, and hands-on activities, with most classes being one hour of lecture/discussion and the second hour a guided hands-on activity. One paper will be assigned as well as one design-based project & presentation. Some reading will be required.

Classes will be held at the George Jones Farm on Sunday afternoons from 1-3pm.  The George Jones Farm is located minutes from campus at 44333 St. Rte. 511 (E. Lorain St.). contact Brad Melzer for syllabus and more info: bcmelzer@gotthenac.org
