TUESDAY ACTION: E-mail Bonner Co. Commissioners

TL;DR

  • Email the Bonner County commissioners to let them know your thoughts about Panhandle Health.
  • The commissioners cannot defund Panhandle Health at this time, have to add it to the annual budget meeting.
  • Example email template below.

Attention Email Warriors!

Due to the mask mandate reissued by the Panhandle Health board last week, the Bonner County commissioners have been very outspoken against the mandate and have openly commented that Panhandle Health should be defunded. This, obviously, has led to more media attention, which has also led to more...liberal...people sending emails to the board telling them to not defund Panhandle Health. Joke's on them because in today's weekly commissioner business meeting, although they discussed Panhandle Health and the idiocracy of a mask mandate, they cannot legally change any funding until their annual budget meeting. Combing through last years's agendas, it looks like the budget workshops/meetings take place in July.

Although this is happening in Bonner County and I typically focus on Kootenai County, this could be something that will affect our daily lives. It's time to start paying attention to the areas surrounding us because you never know when we'll need help from our neighbors or vice versa. It would be detrimental for our attention to stop at our county borders and the masking agenda is one topic that's very near and dear to many of our hearts.

Here's what you can do: we have found that when the commissioners (or any elected official) do something right, they rarely get encouragement from the public that agrees with them. I know we're all really good about making sure they know if we DON'T agree with them, but it's been said many times that we need to get better about letting them know if we DO agree with them. And by "we" I really mean "me" because I'm terrible at encouragement when I get my way, so you get to come with me on this journey to "Thank You" emails. :D

Below I've put together a proposed email to help get your creative juices flowing. This is a generic email around the topic of Panhandle Health, but feel free to personalize it to whatever topic you want. I recommend sending individual emails to each of the commissioners so that it doesn't look like you sent a mass email to everyone. Also include your name and where you live to give it a personal touch and to let them know you're local(ish), and you appreciate their efforts so much that you took a moment to let them know your feelings.

Commissioner XXXXX,

Thank you for your courage to stand up against the onslaught of pressure put on by those that want to control our counties. I agree that Panhandle Health has overstepped their jurisdiction, and I'm thankful for your boldness to stand up for our freedoms. I understand why you couldn't decide the fate of Panhandle Health funding today, and I hope that you will put this as a discussion line item on your annual budget agenda. Please continue to fight for your constituents; I'm hoping the other counties' elected officials will be empowered by your backbone and do the right thing as well.

Thank you for all you do,
Erin Barnard
Coeur d'Alene Resident

I hope that you will find the time to shoot off three emails really quickly to let the commissioners know your thoughts. Doing the right thing is not necessarily the easy way and it can sometimes feel like you're on an island. Let's throw them a line.
