ACTION: CONTACT OUR US IDAHO REPS FOR THIS "RELIEF" PACKAGE

TL;DR

  • US Congress approved a $2.3 TRILLION spending bill with $900 BILLION set aside for "Covid Relief."
  • Out of all that, only $600 is appropriated for each American adult.
  • Contact everyone representing us to let them know this is unacceptable.

Our Congress Approved a Pile of Doodoo

I am at a loss for words over what our duly-elected US Congress did yesterday when they passed a ridiculous spending bill and, oh yeah, decided to include $600 for each little person that they stepped on to get to Washington DC. All in the name of "Coronavirus Relief." This spending package allows Congress to spend $900 BILLION dollars "for Coronavirus relief," as part of a $2.3 TRILLION spending bill, but that term "Coronavirus relief" must mean something different to those passing the bills and us little people who are watching all this happen from the cheap seats.

This new stimulus bill is actually an amendment to a bill that was passed in the House in January, 2020. You'll love the title of the original bill: H.R.133 - United States-Mexico Economic Partnership Act; the amendment is called the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021.  Someone smarter than me is going to have to explain to me why this amendment is connected to a US-Mexico Economic Partnership Act AT ALL other than they both are spending money outside of the US like a crazy person.

First, I can't wrap my brain around how much money $900 BILLION really is - which doesn't even account for half of the approved spending amount of $2.3 TRILLION -  and what it could do for the American people. As a person who relies solely on a small business to keep our family alive, I understand how a stimulus like this could actually do some good for us and for the rest of the country that is struggling right now. If that money was split evenly between every adult, each person would get $4,303.58. That's actually a decent amount for a few months at a living wage. That's not nearly enough to survive, but since I can't do anything to change this bill right now, I'm going to look at it as if Government wants to play the Covid game with our tax money, then bring it.

The $900 BILLION sounds all find and dandy until you read what they've appropriated in this new package:

This is a Covid-relief stimulus package, approved by the US Congress, that is supposed to go to the US people. What.the.actual.heck? Look closely at those countries people, this is what your tax money is going towards. That Asia RIA? It's for the "Asia Reassurance Initiative Act of 2018." Asia reassurance because we wouldn't want their feelings to get hurt during our Covid crisis.

The Senators got a chance to look at the House-approved bill finally late last night and only had 2 hours to read through it before having to vote. That'd be fine if this was a 10-page document but this was 5,593 pages that they were supposed to go over with a fine-toothed comb in 2 hours. That's not possible, and there were a lot of complaints about that fact:

The wise thing to do would be to vote no and then go back to the table so everyone has a chance to read though this thing and see if there's portions that need to be removed, like those listed above. Sadly, as we're learning the hard way, Congress does not have the smartest people representing us, and I'm pretty sure most of them couldn't even pronounce half the words that are listed in this bill. Due to the Congressional combined IQ of about 80, this package was passed first through the House (359yeas-93nos-17abstaining) and then through the Senate (92yeas-6nos-2abstaining).

Here's the worst part: our two Idaho US Representatives and two Idaho US Senators voted and they ALL VOTED YES!

I put Fulcher's entire thread about this package on here because even after all this complaining he still voted yes. I'm disappointed with his vote the most.

The last hurdle this package has to go through before it officially becomes a law is a signature by the President. This is where you can help. I urge you to send an email to the President asking for him to veto this bill as it will do more harm than good for the American people. Not only will every American get chump change - they can't even survive a month with this amount - but this spending is OUT OF CONTROL and our next few generations will still be dealing with the fallout of this if we don't get rid of it now.

Mr. President:

This spending package is beyond an atrocity to the American people and I urge you to veto it when it comes across you desk. We have no faith that our representatives are acting for the good of the people; you are our last hope to get us out of this package mess and I implore you to do the right thing. Thank you for continuing to fight for us and all that you do behind the scenes we know nothing about.

Thank you,
Erin Barnard

I'm beyond frustrated with the state of our entire Idaho representative team and I will be emailing them about this frustration today.  I'm probably going to take the email I sent to the President and use it for my emails to our Idaho Representatives.

Senator/Representative XXX,

Please see below my email to the President. I am disappointed and beyond frustrated that you would approve a spending package without taking the time to read the entire bill with a find-toothed comb, thinking that this was best for the American People. As you can read in my email below, my faith in you representing the state of Idaho properly is sorely diminished, and from my small-business-owner cheap seat your actions have caused more harm than good. Your decision to approve this ridiculous monstrosity is highly offensive and I'm not sure I can trust you to make the right decisions for us in the future. Have a good Christmas knowing you just put your constituents in an even worse situation than they were two days ago.

Respectfully,
Erin Barnard
