Post Falls School District has an upset
Shocking results for the Post Falls School District as their levy failed by only 33 votes! Overall the vote results are not surprising, the only outlier being that Post Falls defeat. No worries, though, they will be able to have another special voting day on August 31st to try and get it passed again. The Lakeland results were the other shocker with that levy passing by only 54 votes! Our votes really DO matter!
I know there's some historical reason by the schools get two off-cycle chances to get the levies passed, spending thousands upon thousands of unnecessary county dollars, instead of having them with the May and November elections, but I went down a rabbit hole of Idaho laws and realized I missed my calling as a legal professional. lol
What I find fascinating is the comparison between this levy vote and the last levy vote in 2019. In 2021 there were 18,249 ballots cast which accounts for 18.36% of the registered voters in Kootenai County. In 2019 only 9,928 people cast ballots, accounting for 12.33% of registered voters - AND there was a Dalton Gardens City Council recall going on at that time as well!
Voting may or may not have gone in your favor but that's ok! There was a strong off-cycle voter turnout which leads me to believe that more people are paying attention to what our local leaders are doing, and this gives me hope for the future.
I hope your day goes well in spite of, or due to, yesterday's vote. The sun will still be shining and we'll keep plugging forward.
