News and Reflections of and about Northwest Yearly Meeting
NWYM is a Christ-centered, discerning, inter-generational community of Friends, committed to discipleship and outreach to impact society locally and globally.
Here are some brief words of encouragement from Jim Le Shana. Click on this video link.
Dear Friends,
As you know, these are strange new days for all of us – in our families, churches, and all over the world.  The Coronavirus (Covid-19) has taken center stage, with things changing daily (and sometimes hourly)!
Less than one week ago, we still thought groups smaller than 250 could meet together safely.  On Monday of this week, President Trump urged the public to avoid gathering in groups of ten or more for at least the next two weeks.  The CDC now repeats that small number as its banner advice.  Some regions of the country are in a kind of lock down (CA calls it “Safer at Home”), and these stringent measures may be coming to us in the NW, too.
Before I go further, I want to remind you that these are NOT strange or surprising days for the Lord.  He is still on the throne (Isaiah 6:1-4), He is in charge (Matthew 28:18), and we can trust Him today (Proverbs 3:5-6) as much as ever! We need to be wise, and abide by the governmental and health guidance, in our personal lives and as churches.  But I want to encourage us to take steps in faith not in fear, and out of hearts of compassion and thankfulness, not selfishness.
With all of this in mind, over the past week, I have been in communication with most of our pastors and with many of our church leaders.  In light of the new guidelines, I have some updates, recommendations, and words of encouragement for you.
1. We’re Not “Closing the Church,” We Are “Doing Church Differently!”
2. Stay Connected, While Practicing Social Distancing.
3. Look For Ways to Reach Out with Love!
4. What Other Changes and Adjustments Are We Making in NWYM?
As I have shared recently with our pastors, bottom line, this is a time to represent Jesus well.  The light shines brightest in the darkness.  Many of us have been praying for a revival in this country and for the Lord to pour out His Spirit in such a way that it gives birth to a church multiplication movement among us in this country and around the world.  Wouldn’t it be just like the Lord to use even this very difficult time to allow the Church to grow healthier and stronger than ever before, making a positive difference for Christ, one person at a time?!  May it be so Lord!
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14-16)
I’m praying for you!  Please let us know if you have any questions, suggestions, or if there is any way that I can be helpful to you!

Because of Christ,
