“Praying is powerful power.”

Lailah Gifty Akita

“No place is closed to intercessory prayer: no continent, no nation, no city, no organization, no office. No power on earth can keep intercession out.”

5 Steps to Start an Intercessory Prayer Group

Have you ever thought about starting one?

1. Pray about it.
  •   Am I willing?
  •   What will I give up to make time?
2. Spread the idea.
  •   Who would do this with me?
  •   What is passionate about it?
3. Set a limited trial period.
  •   Weekly for one month?
  •   Maybe seven weeks?
4. Then evaluate and commit.
  •   What do we commit to?
  •   What’s our next step?
5. Find the pattern that works for you and yours.
  •   Where?  What time?  How often?
  •   How is the Holy Spirit specifically leading our Intercessory Prayer Group?*

It’s here!

At long last, the book on the history of Friends work in Bolivia is published. Since our commissioning by the NWYM Board of Global Outreach in 2013, we have investigated, interviewed, travelled, written, and re-vised hundreds of pages.

Along the way, we have prayed with Moses in Psalm 90, “Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us; establish, Thou, the work of our hands.” We have been conscious of partnering with God in God’s purposes, both for the church in Bolivia, and, more specifically for our undertaking such a huge project.

The book is entitled, A Long Walk, A Gradual Ascent: The Story of the Bolivian Friends Church in its Context of Conflict (2019, Wipf & Stock), and can be ordered directly from the publisher, from Amazon.com, or from Barclay Press. In a few months, a digital version will be available.

The book covers the 100-year history of Bolivian Quakers (INELA) and presents to Friends in the northwest the fruit of their labors, with many surprises along the way. We have much to learn from this story, and much to thank God for. The adventure is ongoing.

Hal and I are available to visit churches in the northwest between February and July of this year. We can preach (showing how this story is part of the ongoing story of the Book of Acts) or teach (anywhere from one to five workshops, with applications to NWYM today). Please contact us directly by email (hanathomas@prodola.org) or phone (503-554-7531 or 503-550-1237).

Thanks be to God!
