Dear NWYM Friends,
Merry Christmas and (almost) Happy New Year!
As you know, 2020 has been a year of many changes and challenges, from the global pandemic, political conflict, and social unrest, to the fierce wildfires here in the NW and the many adjustments made by our churches to online experiences. Who knew one year ago that words like “pivot” and “zoom” would come to be used primarily as something other than a basketball move and the sound made by a toy racecar?! ☺
In the midst of it all, I hope you have discovered a deepened sense of God’s faithfulness. Although we are still learning and growing, there is much to be thankful for today in NWYM, including:
- The flexibility of our pastors and churches to make changes to worship and connect with each other (and for the technology that has facilitated it – unavailable not that long ago).
Reports of churches ministering to new people through their online ministries, that they would not have been able to reach any other way.
Wonderful Yearly Meeting sessions in July, held 100% online, with a large number of participants and a timely emphasis on Thriving.
A great sense of unity in NWYM, from pastors and churches to NWYM boards and staff.
A growing awareness that we live in the midst of a ripe mission field, and a renewed interest and enthusiasm to plant new churches and revitalize existing churches.
An historic and powerful International Friends Church Multiplication Conference in November, attended by evangelical Friends from 26 states and 26 countries, and the LARGEST contingent coming from among us (with over 100 NWYM participants).
The impact we are having around the world through EFM and our global missionaries.
We are also thankful for the Lord’s financial provision in NWYM. Even though we have been running significantly behind each month in our general fund giving to meet our budget needs in 2020, we are hopeful that we will end the year just barely in the “black” (due to the receipt of a government PPP loan and by not spending money for budgeted staff expenses). We would ask you to pray with us that we will finish the year strong in our giving, and that both churches and individuals will increase their donations to NWYM in 2021 to support our important ministries together.
If you would be willing to make a year-end gift to NWYM, please write a check to: NWYM, 200 N Meridian St., Newberg, OR, 97132 – or CLICK HERE to give immediately online.
Thank you for your faithfulness and for your ongoing prayers and support of the ministries of our family of churches in NWYM! By God’s grace, our best days are still ahead of us!
Because of Christ,
Jim Le Shana
General Superintendent, NWYM
