2019 Thanksgiving Offering Recommendation
We would like to encourage churches to support existing fundraisers this year, rather than offering a new project. We believe that the Share Call and the Evangelical Friends Missions Fall Offering both capture the idea perfectly for why we have a Thanksgiving Offering. Let's join together and offer thanks for the myriad ways that God has been faithful this year to us!
The Fall Share Call is supporting Star Community Friends Church in their parsonage re-roofing project. The Share Call was developed as a way to collectively invest and partner with local churches in our yearly meeting to complete projects that they would not be able to easily complete by themself. Check with your local church if you would like a copy of the brochure.
Evangelical Friends Mission is currently featuring seven teams who could really use your help. In their Fall Offering, they are asking churches and individuals to come alongside any one of these ministries to lift their spirits and lighten their burdens. These teams include EFC-Nepal, the Great Lakes Leadership Training, the Philippine Evangelical Friends International Ministries, the Adhikari Family, the Howell Family, the Retnaraj Family, and D.K. and Choity Sarkar. Many in Northwest Yearly Meeting have had the pleasure to recently hear from the Howells, Adhikaris, and Retnarajs.
Bolivia, and especially the city of La Paz has been in a state of crisis for the last month. This crisis is due to the contested election and the forced resignation of President Evo Morales resulting in people taking polarized positions either for or against Morales. There has been much violence and many deaths. A blockade was also raised to "starve out" the city of LaPaz. Hector Castro, our Bolivian Yearly Meeting Friends Church Superintendent asks NWYM friends to please join them in prayer.
Pray especially for the common people in their local churches and the pressure on them to join in the protests and that tensions are especially strong around LaPaz and Alto LaPaz. Pray for the safety of fellow Christians, for peace, wisdom, and an opportunity for the Gospel to prosper through this time of great difficulty. Pray for a decrease of violence and for the interim government to call for new elections soon.
We have asked David Thomas, former missionary to Bolivia from Northwest Yearly Meeting and current EFM missionary to share more of his insights, perspectives, and detail about how we can be praying. Click on this link to read more.
