News and Reflections of and about Northwest Yearly Meeting
NWYM is a Christ-centered, discerning, inter-generational community of Friends, committed to discipleship and outreach to impact society locally and globally.
EFM Children's Mission Focus
Evangelical Friends Mission’s 2020 Children’s Missions Focus is now available at www.friendsmission.com/children.

The theme this year is “Here am I. Send me!” and the lessons tell the story of the first missionary to be sent out by what is known today as Evangelical Friends. These lessons are also being released at the same time that the EFM Board is announcing a God-sized goal for the next five years: To send 10 new missionary households from North America to launch 5 new fields by 2025.

So many missionaries first heard God calling them to this kind of ministry when they were children. Our prayer is that these lessons will be used by the Lord to send more workers into the harvest fields of the world whether it’s 5, 15, or 25 years from now.

Friends Women Fall Retreats

Ladies, you are invited!  Rise Retreat "Flourish" is coming soon!  September 18-20 at beautiful Quaker Hill Camp and Conference Center in McCall, Idaho.

Because of COVID, the Early Bird ($155) has been extended to August 15th.  We hope that you will join us this year and be renewed and inspired for another year.  As we purpose this year to learn about flourishing in difficult and challenging times may we understand how significant we are to Jesus and to the body of Christ.  The speaker this year is Liz Seume from Quaker Cove Camp.  Because of COVID no paper registrations available but registrations are available online at http://www.idahoriseretreat.com/register/

If you can't register online and need help with registration call Ellen Morse at 208-850-3131.  She will make it happen!  Hope to see you at Flourish 2020!

Blessings to all!

Camp Tilikum
Tilikum Lodge is opening for private retreats beginning Monday, August 10. Private Retreats are for adults and can be made individually, with a companion, or a small group of friends.

Private retreats are scheduled as availability permits. It helps the camp to arrange your stay if reservations are made at least 10 days in advance. A private retreat at Tilikum should be at least two and no more than five nights. Accommodations include a private room, linens and towels, and delicious home-style meals.

Quaker Cove
Located on Fidalgo Island in Washington State, Quaker Cove is a Christian camp and a refreshing place to get away from the busyness of daily life. We would be happy to host your family as a guest.

The camp is offering private family retreats in their cabins this summer and fall.  With beachfront access and a lovely campfire, you could spend the whole day at the waterfront! There are also hiking trails through wooded sections of the camp along with a treehouse and meadow for outdoor activities.

Quaker Hill
This summer God is showcasing His faithfulness at Quaker Hill Camp in Idaho, even during the pandemic!  Recently, the camp was able to increase its overnight capacity by an additional Twenty-Four beds!!!

Several weeks ago, an adjacent property owner called to inquire if the camp would have any desire to purchase their 5,300 square foot home. The house was being rented as an Airbnb, but because of Covid-19, they had decided to sell. As the board of directors explored the idea, it became clear this would become a journey in faith and that God had moved through the purchase of this property!  Quaker Hill bought the house fully furnished, and the previous owner was even willing to carry the contract for 7 years (giving adequate time to fundraise for the purchase of the home)!

Jon Walker, the camp director, explained, “This property is incredible and an amazing addition to Quaker Hill!” He went on to invite everyone to visit.“I would love to give you a tour, OR you might think about renting this beautiful home for your next small group or family gathering!”

Financial Recap as of
June 30, 2020

God is always faithful, and God is always good.  NWYM appreciates all those who contributed to the General Fund Budget so far this year either through your local church and/or directly to NWYM.  The 1st Qtr's (O3/31/2020) Financial Recap showed actual General Fund giving for the year significantly below budget.  Since then, (06/30/2020) we received a Payroll Protection Program loan that we are hoping to convert to a grant.  This helped us cover the Local Church Support shortfall of $33K to date and the $30K shortfall from Undesignated to Boards, for a total shortfall of $63K to date.  Although the actual expenses for the year are well below budget, the revenues are not even close to meeting the reduced expenses.  NWYM is trying to live within its means without dipping into savings but this deficit is larger than it has been even when there were a lot more staff.  This budget includes an additional staff person that hasn't been hired and probably won't be able to be hired.  Will you continue to do your part in supporting your local church and the work of NWYM?  God bless you as you continue to live for Him.

Janelle Nordyke, Finance Director
