Area Meetings, Pastors Conference, and a Story of How Prayer Changes Lives
News and Reflections of and about Northwest Yearly Meeting
NWYM is a Christ-centered, discerning, inter-generational community of Friends, committed to discipleship and outreach to impact society locally and globally.
Prayer is part of the DNA of Clackamas Park Friends Church. Significant time is spent in Sunday school and worship for prayer concerns. We have an active prayer chain and a Facebook group dedicated to praying for the needs of people in our church. On Thursday nights many come together for Bible study and prayer time. Why would we need to have another prayer venue at our church?
Our answer: A mother and her son have grown closer together. They are more encouraged and strengthened to pray for their extended family. In the words of the mother, “I am so encouraged to pray for the will of God in what I used to believe was an impossible situation,”
A man who has attended Clackamas Park Friends Church for quite some time exclaimed, “This is the most significant activity our church has taken on in many years.”
The Intercessory Prayer Group at Clackamas Park Friends Church has been meeting since October 2019. Ten people meet together at 3:00 pm on Wednesdays, coming from jobs and activities to discuss and pray together for the salvation of those who do not have a relationship with Jesus.
Our time together starts with a lively discussion of an assigned chapter from Andrew Murray’s book, With Christ in the School of Prayer. It is encouraging for everyone to hear insights from the assigned reading. The discussion isn’t limited to the three questions found in the back of the book but is focused on what people are learning and how old concepts are changing. Prayer is definitely changing from “self” focused to “others” focused. It is encouraging to watch people open up as they see their place in praying for others.
From the discussion time of the book, the group splits up into smaller separate prayer groups for men and for women to pray for specific people who need to come into a living relationship with Jesus.
The intercessory prayer time has definitely made an impact on our whole church. People notice the change in attitude and the spiritual growth that is happening. Others are now wanting to be a part of the discussion and prayer time as well, and they are welcome…on the condition, they come with an attitude to learn to pray God’s will, and they do not make this about themselves but they pray for the salvation of the unbelievers.

Pastors Conference 2020
Our keynote speaker this year is Chris Adams, Ph.D. He is a third-generation pastor's kid and ordained minister. As Executive Director of the Center for Vocational Ministry, he focuses on cultivating resilience in ministry leaders and students through research and formational resources.
The conference begins on the evening of March 9th and wraps up on Thursday morning the 12th and will take place at Twin Rocks Friends Camp. We hope that every pastor will be able to come this year!
As many of you know from the news, the Corona-virus in Wuhan has become a serious international health issue. On January 30, the World Health Organization declared it to be a “public health emergency of international concern.” You might be wondering why this city's name has sounded familiar? We have two teachers in the TA China program in Wuhan!
However, when Wuhan City was closed, our teachers were already outside of Wuhan for a scheduled semester break. After the city was closed, our teachers went to visit friends in southern China. At this time they are in the Philippines for a scheduled vacation. Classes for them were scheduled to begin again in mid-February, however, all classes have been postponed by the government for now.
Please be praying for our teachers working in China and the decision as to whether or not to bring them home, for all the foreigners now quarantined in China, for the medical workers, for the people who are ill, and for the government of China as it makes decisions for the future.
